I don't know much about italian music. The most I know is from opera and classic singers that sing popular songs.
But I looked for CDs of Italian music and got this:

And finallly I can not be fair here because I am a fan ... try " Sometimes I dream" from Mario Frangoulis. There you can listen not to famous songs but Beautiful Italian songs like:
Vincero, Perdero, Buongiorno Principessa, Luna Rossa , Non Sara, Canzone Arrabbiata and a version in italian of Night in White Satin.
