I undstastand what some of the people here are saying about stepping back and being the better person .......... BUT in reality it does'nt happen like that and sometimes you have to fight for love.

You didn't answer by now, so I think this thread is still actual.
If you think you're better than his actual gf, what do you need a song for ?
In your case I'd advise you to be straight. Walk up to him, tell him you love him and that it hurts you so much to see, how his actual gf treats him. Tell him, you'll be there when he needs a friend to listen to when he's blue, when he needs a female shoulder to lean on. Tell him, you want to be his friend in spite of what you feel for him.
But also show him that you can laugh and do funny things (not kidding around, just having fun). Give him the chance to find out, you take more care of him and that you are more tenderly than her. This might make him consider his situation and - maybe - run to you.
