Cuándo by Ricardo Arjona, for you to enjoy

This is one of Arjona´s songs that I like the most. Maybe some of you know this great songwriter and will enjoy the translation. And if you don´t know him, or don´t think he´s a great songwriter then you should listen to his song "De vez en mes".... I mean, how many singers can write an ode to women´s period and still make it sound poetic and romantic?

***Here I provided the literal translation because I don´t know the equivalent for this idiom in English
sacar a un clavo con otro clavo: it means to try to forget somebody by being with someone else. It´s not like "when one door closes, another opens" or "there are plenty of fish in the sea". It has a negative connotation, as if it were a stupid thing to do because you won´t be able to forget about that person no matter what. Do you get the picture? Hammering a nail over another one in order to pull out the first... It´s impossible!
If anyone can suggest an English idiom for this expression, I´ll appreciate it.
