However, I must clarify that 'Me he pasado la noche en vela' has nothing to do with sailing, it's just an old spanish expression to say you were all night long awake, usually because a worry. It's natural that it leads to confusion. By the way, vela have two meanings: sail and candle. The second meaning are nearer to the expresion because in the past, when you couldn't sleep you need a candle to keep light on (but I really don't know the exact origin of that expression actually).
Refering 'rondar', it's another expresion meaning to pay court to someone by using the technique of frequenting or visiting places near to the beloved, more than prow.
