My precious gift - mi regalo precioso
When I began to dream about love - cuando empecé a soñar sobre el amor
I found the perfect little box to put a gift inside - encontré a la caja perfecta y pequeña para poner un regalo por dentro
And I searched far and wide for the prettiest wrapping paper - y yo busqué a lo largo y ancho por el papel de embalaje (de regalo) más bonito
The one that best described me - al que mejor me describió
When I found it I wrapped the box with it - cuando lo encontré, envolvi la caja con el
Then I made a bow, a quaint little bow to fit my personality - entonces hicé un arco, un pintoresco arco que describió mi personalidad
I tied it on the top - y lo até
Then I wrote a little note addressing it to: luego escribí una pequeña nota dirigida a:
YOU, whoever you may be - TI, quien sea fueras
And so began the waiting process - y así comenzó el proceso de espera
It took a while…tomó un tiempo
Then came the first man - luego llegó el primer hombre
But I was afraid, so I hid it in my chest - pero tuve miedo, entonces lo escondí en mi pecho
And so the note was crinkled up - entonces la nota se arrugó
And when he walked away I was thankful that I hid it away - y cuando él se alejó, yo estaba agradecida de haberlo escondido
Because I felt someone else would come around and be more worthy - porque sentí que otro vendría que sería más digno

Yes I knew the note was crinkled - sí, sabía la nota estaba arrugada
And the bow torn, but mended - y el arco quebrado, pero reparado
And the wrapper was dirty, worn, and ugly - y el papel estuvo sucio, arrugado y feo
But still I gave it hoping you would want to open it up - pero igual lo dí esperando lo hibas a querer habrir
Because inside the box lies the most beautiful gift you could ever imagine -

But you didn’t open it. You handed it back to me - pero no lo habriste. Me lo diste de vuelta
And said “I can’t handle this,” y dijiste "no puedo tocarlo"
And with tears in my eyes I took back my gift - y con lágrimas en mis ojos, tomé de nuevo mi regalo
I held it close to me and when you walked away and disappeared - lo tomé cerca de mí y cuando te alejaste y desapareciste
I myself opened the box to check on what was inside - yo misma abrí la caja para ver que había por dentro
But when I looked inside the box the gift wasn’t the same - pero cuando ví por dentro de la caja, el regalo no era el mismo
It had gotten smaller and was now broken - se había hecho más pequeño y ahora estaba quebrado
But I don’t know how to fix it - pero no sé como repararlo
I wish I did… because the gift inside this precious box - ojala lo supiera...porque
el regalo dentro de esta preciosa caja
Was in fact my very heart - fue en efecto mi corazón
But then I thought to myself…if I fixed it and started over, repacking it and everything -
pero después pensé para mí misma… si lo reparo y comienzo de nuevo, empaquetandolo y todo lo demás
I would jut be setting myself up for the next man like you to come and rip it all apart - le estaría abriendo la puerta a otro hombre igual a tí para que viniera y rasgara todo aparte
