Romanian music recommendations

Hey guys...

I wonder if anyone could recommend me some Romanian music? Maybe I'll go to Romania this year, so I'd like to get to know some songs that are popular there..... Are there any I absolutely have to know?

I prefer pop and rock music, but tell me whatever you think sounds good...
I know that there are lots of songs and lyrics already posted in the forum, but I can't download them all :-((

I think the songs and translations are very helpful in learning the language..... so I'd be really grateful for your replies!

I'm glad you might come to Romania, you have many many things to see. I hope you enjoy my country.

Firstly, I have my favourite rock bands (in my point of view, good music never dies) like : Holograf, Directia 5, Pasarea Colibri, Vama Veche, Iris, Vama, Phoenix.

"Voltaj" is also a good rock band

I don't listen Romanian music too much, but a song that I really like is: "in lipsa mea" by Smiley & Uzzi. search it on youtube; u're gonna like it

Akcent... My great romanian love I like also music by Activ, 3SE, Crush & Alexandra Ungureanu, DJ Project, Keo, Fly Project... Someone mentioned Voltaj, they are also super

i guess it depends what kind of music u like....
the rock bands mentioned are quite good, i'm glad u like their music.
i would add El Negro (which is a raggae band, u can start with the song "ploaia"), Taxi ("stelele care cad" and others), Vita de vie (rock )), Sarmalele reci (i love "daca n-ai fi tu"), Mihai Margineanu ("Cand te scuturi de zapada", "Mai stii" , song wich have great lyrics too), Paula Seling (she has a great voice, i reccomend you "Timpul")....and if i remember some more i'll be back to share.

Truue! ROmania has the BEST house/club/dance music and what else is popular is "MANELE" a type of music usually sung by gypsies but in romanian and usually a lot of people listen to them , theyre good for some of those romanian parties or whatnot, lol. some of them are pretty cool, like babi minune- sa vina toti nebunii mei .
check out www.e-muzica.net it has a great selection of modern romanian music along with other popular known songs :P

For me the best Rock/Alternative Romanian bands are:
Alternosfera ( This is a band from Moldova but sing romanian)
Luna amara
Buricul pamantului- this band is no longer together but they have 2 good album
Trupa Voodoo
TRAVKA
COMA
trupa Firma - has some good rock songs but they also have songs in english.

well, O-Zone is no longer intact, either... they have broken into Dan Bălan/Crazy Loop, Radu Sîrbu, and Arsenium. But they have excellent Eurodance music. On the other hand, Voltaj is good for rock, and Akcent is dance/pop as well as Anka. Andreea Bălan sings pop. If you would like faster help may I suggest you post on the Muzica Românească / Romanian Music thread? We specialize in Romanian music there, maybe someone could help you (although Nicolae Gută) is not the most popular there)?

Great ideas everyone! The "manele" is not really for me, but anything with a Euro/House/Trance feel sung in Romanian or by Romanians really does it for me for some odd reason...

I particularly like the Dj Layla & Dee-Dee mentioned above, while DJ Project is my favourite of all. Right now I also enjoy Edward Maya and Inna too, especially since they just visited Toronto, Canada!
