    LOLZZZZ

Hi, can someone have a try on this song. I'm having troubles on understanding the second phrase. I placed 'gusta' as this is usually writen in the original poem. I have done most part of the work. Maybe natives must have a more accurate vocabulary. Thanks in advance.

Here my post in "Lyrics Request" section:

    De los árboles de frutas,
    Among all the fruit trees
    te gusta el melocotón;
You like the peach tree the most
y de los reyes de España,
And among all the kings of Spain
    Alfosito de Borbón.
You like Alfonsito de Borbon the most
    ¿Dónde vas tú, Alfonsito?
    Where are you going, Alfonsito?
    ¿Dónde vas tú, por ahi?
Where are you going wandering around?
    Voy en busca de Mercedes
I'm going to look for Mercedes
que ayer tarde no la vi.
because yesterday afternoon I didn't see her
    Mercedita está muerta,
    Mercedita is dead
muerta está, que yo la vi,
She is dead, because I saw her dead
    Siete duques la lloraban
Seven dukes were crying for her
    todos por amor de ti.
They all were crying for her, the love of yours
Al entrar en al palacio, (i)
When I came into the palace
    una sombra negra vi, (ii)
    I saw a dark smoke
    Cuando más me aretiraba,
The more I tried to keep distant
    más se acercaba pa' mí.
The more the smore was getting closer to me
    No te asustes, Alfonsito,
    Don't worry, Alfonsito
No te asustes tú de mi
    Don't get frightened about me
    que soy tu esposa Mercedes,
    Because I'm your wife Mercedes
    que me vengo a despedir.
I came here to see you off
    Si eres mi esposa Mercedes
If you are my wife Mercedes
    Hecha los brazos a mi
    Wrap your arms around me
    Los brazos que te abrazaban
The arms that used to embrace you
a la tierra se los di
I left/gave them in/to the earth (=she's dead, she is burried)

I'm gonna go for "gusta", it's pronounced kinda weird, but so is the rest of the song... plus, it's the only word I can think of that fits in there and makes sense. So I guess "gusta" is the only choice

Awesome job, the song transcript and translation were great!!! May I introduce some suggestions though??

que ayer tarde no la vi.
because yesterday late I didn't see her (or late yesterday)
[it would be "yesterday afternoon" = "ayer por la tarde", in this case means "yesterday late (in the day)"

Al entrar él al palacio, (i)
When HE came into the palace
    una sombra negra vi, (ii)
    I saw a dark shadow

hope it helps algebra! take care!!!

I heard this too but I found this strange for the lack of concordance between phrases (i) and (ii). Thank you for the corrections

I'm not sure, but it could be that she's not Spanish speaker (because the accent) and when people who aren't Spanish speaker sings in Spanish sometimes they add sounds where they don't go.... (as I should be doing while speaking English )

She could be singing: "Al entrar(e) en el palacio, una sombra negra vi"...

The same with "cuando más me (a)retiraba, más se acercaba pa' mi"

"aretirar" doesn't exists in spanish (http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltGUIB...&LEMA=aretirar)

So I'm almost sure she says: "al entrar en el palacio" and "cuando más me retiraba"... The sounds added are very usual to hear sometimes...

Not sure, maybe someone else could hear it too
