turkish music genre

Merhaba,
I hope someone can educate me a little about turkish music. I love music in general, and want to know more about turkish music. How many genres are there in turkish music? What are the main ones, besides belly dancing and pop? Is there inspirational, contemporary etc. and who are the top artist to listen to. Again please excuse me if any of these questions seem ridiculous. I'm just trying to learn a little bit more about turkish culture thru its music.

We dont have a genre called belly dancing. Lately Turkish pop (western sound) and Turkish rock or pop-rock is on rise but old generations listen to Turkish art music (Turk sanat muzigi) or Turkish folk music (Turk halk muzigi), these are the main streams but we have sub genres esp. under folk music. In 70s/80s Anatolian Rock was popular. I am sure wikipedia would be a help.
