Havada bulut yok bu ne dumandır
There is no cloud in the sky, whats that fog
Mahlede ölü yok bu ne figandır
Noone in the neighbour died, whats that mourning
şu Yemen elleri ne yamandır
these Yemeni hands are so violent
Ah o yemendir gülü çimendir
Ah it is Yemen*, its rose is like grass
Giden gelmiyor acep nedendir
Those who go there never come back, I wonder why
Burası Huştur yolu yokuştur
Here is quite nice, it has steep roads
Giden gelmiyor acep ne iştir
But those who leave never come back, whats the deal
Kışlanın önünde redif sesi var
In front of the barracks, A redif** makes noise
Bakın çantasında acep nesi var
Look to see what is in his bag
Bir çift kundurayla bir de fesi var
He has a pair of shoes and a fes***
Ah o yemendir gülü çimendir
Ah it is Yemen, its rose is like grass
Giden gelmiyor acep nedendir
Those who go never come back, i wonder why
Burası Muştur yolu yokuştur
Here is Mush****, with steep roads
Giden gelmiyor acep ne iştir
Those who leave never come back what is the deal
*The republic on the southwestern shores of the Arabian Peninsula on the Indian Ocean;
**A reserve force in the Turkish army, or a soldier of the reserve.
*** Ottaman Turkish hat, not worn since the 'Clothes Reform Legistation'
**** A province in Eastern Turkey
P.S. North Yemen was a part of the Ottaman Empire until it becae independent in 1918. So in this song it is not mentioned as an Arabic land but as a part of Ottoman Empire. It is however also expressing the political conflict between the Egyptian Sunni caliphs, Zaidi imams, and the Ottoman authorities at the time.
