Hey.. its a bit long but i like it soo much and would be thankful för a translation to english :$

Hayat Nedir Anne?

benim hiç sapanım olmadı anne,
ne kuşları vurdum,
ne de kimsenin camını kırdım...
çok uslu bir çocuk değildim ama,
seni hiç kırmadim, hep boynumu kırdım.
ben hayatım boyunca
bir tek kendimi vurdum! ..

suskun görünsem de,
fırtınalı ve mağrurdum anne.
bir mızrak gibi,
aynada hep dik durdum anne! ..
ben sana hiç bir gün laf getirmedim,
leke sürmedim.
ama göğsümü çok hırpaladım,
kalbimi çok yordum...
ben hayatım boyunca, en çok kendimi sordum! ...

benim hiç sevgilim olmadı anne,
ne bir yuva kurdum,
ne bir gün şansım güldü...
öpemeden bir bebeğin gidişini,
tükendi gitti çağım...
kimi yürekten sevdiysem,
yüreğini başkasına böldü...
bir muhabbet kuşum vardı,
o da yalnızlıktan öldü...

sen beni göğsünde
hep acılarla mı soğurdun anne?
yoksa evlat diye,
koca bir taş mı doğurdun anne?
eziyet degilim, zahmet değilim,
musibet hiç değilim;
bir senin mi balına sinek kondu, söylesene!
doğurdun da beni,
ne ile yoğurdun anne?

benim hiç hayalim olmadı anne...
ne seni rahat ettirdim,
ne kendim ettim rahat...

even though i seemed silent
i was stormy and proud
like a spear
i stood erect in the mirror, mother
i didn't even a day disgrace you (lit., didn't bring you a [bad] word, ie, didn't do anything to make people say bad words behind you)
i didn't stain your honor
but i buffeted my chest a lot
i tired my heart a lot
all along my life i questioned myself most

all was going well until these lines. soğurmak unambiguously means to absorb, to suck and it's always transitive. i might suppose that the poet actually meant emzirmek (to nurse, to suckle), but in turkish the mother suckles and the baby sucks, (also suckles in english); that is, anne emzirir, bebek emer. (emmek is to suck, also, to absorb.)

apart from a few, influenced mostly by the use of corresponding english words, verbs in turkish can't be both transitive and intransitive. an example of the exception to this rule is the verb satmak (to sell). kitabı sattı (he sold the book) is the correct use, bu kitap çok sattı (this book sold well) is wrong yet widely used nowadays (the correct form is bu kitap çok satıldı). the english influence is evident here.

therefore, he should have said Sen beni göğsünde hep acılarla mı emzirdin anne? not Sen beni göğsünde hep acılarla mı emdin anne?

my guess is that he did this to keep the rhyme with doğurdun (you gave birth to). but wrong is wrong even if the poets do it. i love turkish and readily get upset when i see it used incorrectly by the native speakers.

so i gave up. sorry.
