it didn't make much sense to me, so i put it aside to return later. now, a far-fetched interpretation may be as follows:

i've made a google search. the original form of the sentence is this: ömür dediğin bir gündür, o da bu gündür: what you call life(time) is a day, and today is that day.

and the context is, ömür dediğin üç gündür. dün geldi geçti, yarın meçhuldür. o halde ömür dediğin bir gündür, o da bugündür. what you call life is three days. yesterday passed, tomorrow is unknown. so what you call life is a day, and today is that day.

now it makes a sense.

tek duranın teknesi kırılmaz

this is one of the expressions that i half-understood during most of my life, and it was what i inferred from the physical context. she used to say it to me when i was overly mischievous, so she apparently meant be calm, keep still, behave well etc.

tek has many meanings, as any dictionary can tell, but its meaning in the expression tek durmak, which was mostly used in the imperative tek dur, wasn't clear to me. i much later learnt that in the past it had another meaning: uninhabited, empty, calm, tranquil (for a place). so tekin was from it! tekin yer originally meant a place that is uninhabited or not haunted by spiritual beings, then the meaning shifted to safe. nowadays when you hear someone say burası tekin bir yere benzemiyor (this place doesn't seem not haunted) [s]he most likely means that this might be a dangerous place (physically, not spiritually), then it's tekinsiz bir yer (a haunted or dangerous place).

so tek dur[mak] means keep quiet, keep still, then what about tekne?

i knew two meanings of it: a kneading trough and, figuratively, buttocks (i didn't know at those times it also meant a boat!). so what she was saying was the buttocks of who stays still or calm won't break.

when i fell badly and hurt myself (which i usually did) she used to rephrase it, tek durmazsan işte böyle teknen kırılır: if you don't keep still then your buttocks break just like this!

surely she didn't know the word hyperactive (or overactive).
