this well-known pun is from nef'î.

you know the dog is admired for its loyalty, obedience and gratefulness, but calling someone dog is insulting (at least in turkish) if you're not referring to their loyalty etc.

ideas on whether dogs are pure according to the religion greatly differ. to the shafi'i it's entirely unclean, but to the maliki even its meat may be eaten. see how great a discrepancy this is? the hanafi took the middle ground: only its mouth and saliva is unclean. if it licks your dress, you have to wash it before you perform a prayer; if it licks your food dish or water cup, you have to wash them seven times and rub it with soil afterwards.

some tahir efendi called the poet "dog" and nef'î answered:

i heard that tahir efendi called me dog
his compliment is evident in this word
since my madhhab is maliki
acording to my creed the dog is clean

tahir (طاهر) is a male name from arabic, meaning clean, pure.

"verliyorum" has no meaning in turkish. i think it would be "seviyorum"

but there an expression, now obsolete, as gunagun (gun a gun) from persian meaning variegated.
