My personal tribute.to the late Johnny Cash and his all-consuming love for the woman (June Carter Cash) that rescued him from a lifetime of demons that almost destroyed him. My inspiration for writing this was the movie 'Walk The Line' with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.
Long lines bcs he wrote a lot of story-songs in that style....
5 verses, one for each decade that he loved her.

He walked into the rain and darkness staring straight ahead
while fighting every step the thought of one that wished him dead
But She had filled his heart and so he took a million steps
to bring her all the demons that he couldn't kill himself.
Facedown in the mud and barely knowing where he'd been
He woke up to the nightmare that would take him home again.
The man in black was dying but his angel would not let go.
She brought him through the blackness to a field as white as snow.
"Why are you here" he asked her, and she told him "You're my friend"
"I've been all wrong" he told her but she answered with loving hand...
"Is there more that you need?" And he whispered "No just stay."
Knowing she herself was home, her simple answer was "Ok."
But forty times he begged her, forty times he was hurt
Till finally she saw that he had given his soul to her
Though fiction was his song he was a prisoner all his life
But love became his warden when she said she'd be his wife
Now John and June are legends that we all sing praises of
But all they were together was a boy and girl in love
Angels guard the graves now where they rest in peace at last...
and "Love must be forever" is their final epitaph.
