A Few Wrong Turns
Verse:
When I got the call last night it scared me half to death
Julie said dad come quick there’s been an accident
As I pulled up I saw lights flashin’ red and blue
A mangled mustang and an empty beer can or two
Julie sat there cryin’ wrapped-up in a firemen’s coat
The state police said she ain’t hurt but man it sure was close
She said dad I’m sorry I don’t know what to say
I put my arm around her and said I’m just glad you’re ok
Chorus:
I could’ve gone off on her like Texas thunder storm
But what kinda lesson would she learn
When I looked at her somehow I found the right words
I said honey we all make a few wrong turns
Verse:
Drivin’ home she said dad how come you ain’t mad
I said when I was your age I did a lot worse than that
I hotwired a red Corvette and took her for a ride
When my daddy bailed me out of jail he said son it will be alright
Chorus:
He could’ve gone off on me like Texas thunder storm
But what kinda lesson would I have learned
When he looked at me somehow he found the right words
He said son we all make a few wrong turns
Bridge:
The road is never straight it’s full of detours and curves
You’ll hit some dead ends and you’ll make a few wrong turns
Chorus:
I could’ve gone off on her like Texas thunder storm
But what kinda lesson would she learn
When I looked at her somehow I found the right words
I said honey we all make a few wrong turns

Feedback...
What I like about it is the story and the way 'wrong turns' ties into the experience being had by the subject in the song, Julie (I imagine she's a young girl who's gone off the rocks a bit, metaphorically).
It has a story, moralistic undertones and character dynamics...
I feel it's quintessentially a Country song, reading this. Very lyrically clever and simultaneously simplistic. It has conventions of the genre such as the story, the moral undertones and the singers personal perspective.
I like the perspective of the father/ senior type character.
Maybe the chorus could be a bit tighter in how the point is framed?
