Default The Beetroot Song - Lance Percival

This song was recorded, I think in the 1960's. It is a comedy piece - a play on the names of various vegetables, eg. "My sister Jean's always eating beans, My little brother, leeks. I just saw Ma lick a piece of garlic. Everybody duck when she speaks!" and a chorus of "If you like beetroot, I'll be true to you."

If anyone can post the full original lyrics, I shall be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance (and hope!)

    Default The Beetroot Song

    Hi Derek

First the good news: I managed to download an mp3 of The Beetroot Song onto my desktop last night (I also have a 45rpm disc gathering dust somewhere in the attic). Now the bad news: (a) I'm not sure on which site I found it and (b) I don't know how to send it to you. I'm definitely no technobod - ask my family! If you reply to this with a conventional e-mail address I can try dragging the mp3 into the Attachments box. Will that work? Failing that, one of these days I'll play it through a few times and scribble down the lyrics for you. I'm sure you'd prefer to have the recording, though. Incidentally I think Lance hails from Sevenoaks in Kent, my nearest town.

PS Do check this message as I may have somehow managed to attach the sound file without realising it.

PPS I think LP means 'My littler brother leaks', ie, he wets himself. Just a thought.

    Best wishes
