in this case, viste is not from VER, came from VESTIR, so is not saw is dress

Literal translations do not always make sense.

I know what "dijo" means, but it doesn't make sense, or at least it doesn't render the idea.

And if "viste" comes from vestir, then the right translation would be:

"in this hell that dresses up as a city" (that appears to be something that it's not).

I am not into literal translations, that is why I post after translations that were already made. It is one thing if the one who requested it wants to learn Spanish, and another thing if he/she wants to know the meaning of the song.

yeah.... i know... but sometimes..... also to change it loses its true meaning....

I appreciate both of your replies to my request. I have been learning spanish for years now on my own and I'm pretty good with the literal translations now. But the subtle meanings and the "sayings" escape me.

A couple of questions:
At the beginning you translate "something in his mind tells him", is that her guy and is it his life that takes a turn later in the song? I never realized there was a boyfriend that the song was talking about. I didn't notice that it goes back and forth between su and tu, so the su is a guy and the tu is the girl?
Does "si quiere volar" mean that her man wants to fly away or does it mean that the girl wants to fly and her wings are being cut by others?

And I think I could see it saying that the hell dresses up like a city, like it's really hell but makes itself look like a city. I had thought it meant that it was a hell that you saw from the city but that never seemed to make sense. I guess I still have a lot to learn. I appreciate your help

I'd say the song does not reffer to anyone in particular, it's just a general urge for people not to give up whatever may stand in their way.

But let the natives tell you the real meaning...

when he said: Si quiere volar, I guess he is talking about the soul, wants to fly away, but the problems had cut his wings
