    Default Oldd Christmas recording

Looking for a Spanish-originChristmas song recorded back in the ?40's - 60's that was recorded by a choral group, half in English, half in Spanish. The English verse went like this:

    Come oh come ye shepherds
    To the town of Bethlehem
    There was born an infant
    Emmanuel they call him
    Holy gifts of Christmas
    We would lay before him
    We were born to serve
And would our homage pay him...

then it goes on in Spanish, so that's it for me It's sort of...calypso? in sound..

We're going to be singing something with the same tune in our choir, and the director was stunned when I knew the song...but the translation is very different from this one and I can't find the source of the one I've known forever. Thanks much for any help!

    Thumbs up found it

I've been searching for the same song for ages and finally found it. Villancico is the name of the song and you can find it on amazon.com on "The Little Drummer Boy" album by Harry Simeone Chorale. There are like three albums by that name, but you want the one that has a black and white picture of a boy with a drum.

    Hope this helps!

Oh my gosh. Thank you for posting after all this time!
That's really funny because I went immediately to my father's old Little Drummer Boy album to find it when I heard it, and it's not listed. I have the original album (color cover, painting of a choir in watercolors). Now I'm really puzzled!

I'm amazed - there are three of us in Cyberspace who remember that song. Our elementary school choir sang that song back in XMAS 1965 -- I had no idea it was such a rarity but I have heard it once, and only once, again (on the radio) in the ensuing years. This morning I remembered just a fragment of the lyrics, Googled them and came upon your posts. That is indeed the right song, but except for the one snippet in the middle of a medley on that one album, it may not be anywhere else. The song is as good as a lot of the other Christmas songs we hear on the radio -- to me, much more interesting and tuneful than "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" that is played endlessly.

Thank you both for keeping the memory alive :-)
