It was early september
And the chill was setting in
The sun beat down
On small town wisconsin
The wind blew cold
I needed someone to hold
When this blondehaired bombshell came out of the blue
And said hey how bout me and you
Go and find somewhere to chill
Ill go anywhere you will
Hand in hand through the backstreets
Of this whole town
Girls guitars and gasoline
She was the prettiest girl id ever seen
Like the cover of a magazine
But she was only seventeen
Girls guitars and gasoline's
Enough to make a man turn mean
She coulda been on the movie screen
What was she doing with me
We had the radio on
And we were singing along
To it aint me babe
On a mixed cd
We took a trip to the country
Where asphalt turns to stone
Took a walk on the beach
So we could be alone
We shared an embrace
As the sun came up
Then she turned and kissed me
As we sat in my truck
Girls guitars and gasoline
She was the prettiest girl id ever seen
Like the cover of a magazine
But she was only seventeen
Girls guitars and gasoline's
Enough to make a man turn mean
She coulda been on the moviescreen
What was she doing with me
She moved away and moved on
Like an old country song
She found a new man
And started her own family
Me im doing fine
Long as im drunk or high
I found me a home
On that lonesome road
All ive gots this guitar
That i strum at the bar
Someone buy me a beer
Before i burst into tears
Girls guitars and gasoline
She was the prettiest girl id ever seen
Like the cover of a magazine
But she was only seventeen
Girls guitars and gasoline's
Enough to make a man turn mean
She coulda been on the moviescreen
What was she doing with me

Your chorus is great! I love the fact that this song unfolds like a story, and you did a good job telling it. I thought it would have a happy ending... oh well.

True story

The only thing I could add is;Girls,Guitars,Gutters and Gasoline. You know, down and dirty!

Great song! It made me think of the ZZ Top video's from the eighties. (Gimme All Your Lovin', Sharp Dressed Man).
-
I posted this one to my reverbnation page last night. Feel free to stop by and leave me some feedback there id greatly appreciate it
http://www.reverbnation.com/russmassey4 thanks. -
Pretty good. I was going to say it reminded me of Dire Straits but after re reading it, more like a country version of Dylan.
-
Thanks, I never reaaly thought of it seeming dire straits like before, but now that you say that, yea I can see where youre coming from
-
Like BackinBlack said it's 'pretty good'. But I think your songs have the potential to sound more than pretty good. Maybe with a band the songs will live up to their potential. My favorite one is 'Nothingtown'.

I agree so much that I should get a band together, and ive tried but it just hasnt worked out yet. Theres a rather large folk scene here but as for country well the only person other than me around here thats doing that spends half the year up here in wisconsin and the other half of the year playing around dixie. And he just left on saturday.

Bro I love this..reminds of a punk gone aucostic song I just wrote!!! totally get a social d on the aucostic vibe, and
I agree great job telling the story...I need help with a couple of songs I started that have this feel...up for a collaborationJeffCoralMuzic(YouTube.com) -
Just listened to it on reverb nation..it's awesome..what is you recording set up if u don't mind me asking

I use audacity and a behringer c-1u usb condenser mic, and I use kjaerhaus classic plugins. First take is just acoustic guitar and vocals, then I build from there.

The chorusline Girls, Guitars, and Gasoline is rightout brilliant:
short, wonderful alliteration.
RockinRustle: swing it out, let it sound mean!
You're fine "as long as I'm drunk or high" asks for it.
You make that sound both Good, Bad and Ugly.
Thanks! -
This was a fun and pleasant read. You tell an interesting story and the words flow well from line to line, especially the chorus.

Great title, love the alliteration!
