Sorry for my english.
My friend recorded this song from radio in 1984. To this day, despite the internet, she still doesn't know the name of this song and artist.
It was recorded in 1984 but the song could be obviously created a lot earlier.
Please help, I googled obviously by phrase "give me someone to love" - without any result.
I have a feeling it is very anonymous song
Thank you very much for ANY news.

OK, the singers do sound familiar to me, but to make sure. Here are a couple of questions.
1. What location was your friend when he recorded the song?
2. Did any of you hear the song any other time besides this time?
The reason I ask is, let's say that this was recorded somewhere outside the US, it can really explain why you were unable to find the song by putting in that phrase. -
Thanks for answer. Unfortunately it was recorded in Poland from polish radio station (don't know exact name) but I'm pretty sure it's not polish band because nobody in Poland know this song and seraching by various polish music boards didn't give any results.
Answer for second question is no. -
You're welcome, and thank you for the answer. It sounds like a male duo. When I heard this, it reminded me of Simon & Garfunkel. It definitely isn't them otherwise it would have been found. This is a start though.

Does your friend have the complete song to upload to Youtube?

ETA: Okay, if I read a little farther, I would have been great. Still, I stand by it was possibly an early indie group who didn't succeed.
If it's any good news, I can pretty much narrow this down to 1984. There's a very specific, metallic hit in the song that is a fairly common from an Emulator II... released in 1984. It's seen on Depeche Mode's People Are People.

See around 20 seconds in here.
Maybe it was part of the original wave of New Wave and early Indie Rock that was deemed commercially unviable? It would explain why it would get radio play, but not be remembered that well.Last edited by Asuyuka; 07-03-2012 at 08:18 PM.

Well I can clearly hear an Eastern European accent with the guys singing on the OP's sample. Hence, a duo from Poland (or the former East Bloc) may still be probable. It may be a good idea to ask on a Polish 80s forum (top80s.pl comes to mind)

What are words of song?
give me someone to love ........... why must i feel this way ? -

nothing wrong with it

"Give me someone to love, like the stars up above,
Why must I feel this way, why must I feel this way" x2
This has a distinct reggae vibe, not at all New Wave, the rimshot is totally reggae.

Great tip Mix. Here's a list I found on a site. Previously I went on wikipedia and found a majority of Polish Reggae Artists that sang in Polish. The Eglish singing Reggae Artists so far haven't matched.

Thank you very much for all your answers.
So it seems that its a polish band or band from Eastern Europe. It means a lot. Now we will start to search on few polish boards, but it was already searched on some polish boards without any result. I will also write to few polish journalists who are fans of reagge music. Although i still think it is very anonymous song, even in Poland. -
