No
The "Hotel California" is supposed to represent the hedonistic lifestyle going round Los Angeles and California in the 1970's.
The line at the end
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"
means 'you can stop taking drugs/drink but you'll never be free of the lifestyle'.
Oh, i never saw it this way before... Now i will read the lyric again with this idea.
Tnxs
P.S.. that's is because, believe or not, i just heard the theme for first time 6 years ago, and just this year i looked for the lyrics. I couldn't believe when i saw the theme is from 1976.

No idea what the "theme" is, I know the album is from the 70's...
I've been a fan since I was 5and I'm now 31
If someone wants to give his opinion,
Here's the song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcwr1nbmWLI
Here's the lyric:
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...
Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here
Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.

I have once heard a complete special about the Eagles, Don Henley etc in our local radio station and they explained the meaning of the lyrics as Ultimate Worrier did. It´s about California itself and its lifestyle.
The words "steely knives" was a reference to the band Steely Dan, who had included the lyric "Turn up the Eagles, the neighbours are listening" in their song 'Everything You Did'.

I love this song it reminds me of my childhood
i guess i was 4 years old when i heard it first time in my life
and i still listen to this song from time to time
i dont focus on the words as much as i float with the rhythm
i love the way they play guitar
Me too, i just payed atention to the lyrics last year. I love the guitar too
Lolipop, I didn't honestly think my post was spam, I put no advertising on it and it did a job - It informed someone their message had already been said.
Mavii - The Eagles write a lot of good lyrics and sometimes you have to read them and understand them to know the song.
I know Eagles from age 4 so dont worry i know they write alot of good lyrics
coz i read them but what i meant in my reply was about this song
especially (hotel California) coz i love the the way they play guitar in it
i dont focus every time to the meaning as much as i float with the rhythm
i hope u get my point now ha!!
I got your point the first time, I speak English as my first language so I know the words you were using, it's easy for me.
What I was gettin at was sometimes, just listening to the music isn't enough, you have to understand the lyrics to understand the song
do you get ME now?
From what I have read, Glenn Fry, one of the coauthors of this song, said that Hotel California is a metaphor for cocaine addiction. See "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave."
Per MaresLejanos' request, I tried to translate the song from English to Spanish. I'm much better the other way around. But, here it is anyway!!!!!!!!! Please, feel free to correct it if you can say in a more eloquent or correct way.
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
Me cabeza se hizo pesada, y mi vista se debilitó
I had to stop for the night
Tuve que parar por la noche
There she stood in the doorway;
Alli estaba ella parada en la puerta
I heard the mission bell
Oi la campana de la mision (iglesia)
And I was thinking to myself,
Y pensaba para mí mismo
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
‘este lugar puede ser el cielo or puede ser el infierno’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
Habian voces en el pasillo
I thought I heard them say...
Y creo que los oi decir…
Welcome to the hotel california
Bienvenido al Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Es un lindo lugar
Such a lovely face
Es una linda cara
Plenty of room at the hotel California
Hay muchos cuartos en el Hotel California
Any time of year, you can find it here
Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bendz
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the captain,
Asi que llame al capitan
’please bring me my wine’
“por favor traigame mi vino”
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Y todavia esas voces estan llamando de lejos,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
Solamente para oirles decir….
Welcome to the hotel california
Bienvenido al Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Es un lindo lugar
Such a lovely face
Es una linda cara
They livin’ it up at the hotel California
Se estan divertiendo en el Hotel California
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis
Que buena sorpresa, trae tus coartadas
Mirrors on the ceiling,
Espejos en el techo
The pink champagne on ice
El champán rosado en hielo
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
Y ella dijo ‘Todos aqui somos prisioneros, de nuestro propio deseo
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
Se reunen para el banquete
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast
Pero no pueden matar la bestia
Last thing I remember, I was
La ultima cosa que recuerdo, Yo estaba
Running for the door
Corriendo por la puerta
I had to find the passage back
Tengo que encontrar el pasillo
To the place I was before
Al lugar donde estaba antes
’relax,’ said the night man,
‘Relajate” dijo el guardia de noche

* Difference of opinion is not argument, only difference.

Yes, you did. But I asked her for the translation of this song, because there are some phrases and some words that I don't udenrstand. My english is still growing, I just started to study it selriusly for not longer, maybe 10 months. I'm getting better reading in english, but till I have problems with verbal phrases and with some words.
I just wanted to read it for once in spanish, so I asked her the translation.
Damarys: Thanks so much ! I will check it when I will be back from my job, I'm leaving now.
