Okay so I have this song stuck in my head. We listened to it in history so I know it's important.
Here are some lines:

Well I guess it's just one line but here is what I do know it took place because of the shooting at the college years ago. I would appreciate some help.

Are you refering to the Kent State University shootings in 1970 ?

The Tom Petty and Johnny Cash songs are the same song, but they have no connection to any university shooting. Of course they are the identical lyrics you provided....found only in that song. But the song was written by Tom Petty because of a court case he was involved in in the 1980's. There would be little or no reason to listen to it as part of a History class.
