    Default Funky G - Džaba

Okay, in general I have no problem understanding the Serbian words and phrases. This time though, it was a bit more difficult. Input and help on a few parts, please. Thanks:

Džaba svi me gledaju, džaba za mnom umiru
All watch me in vain, in vain they die for me
Kada prođem ulicom džaba uh-ah uzdišu
When I cross the street, in vain uh-ah they sigh
Džaba za mnom luduju i poklone mi kupuju
In vain, they go crazy for me and they give me presents
Pored mene samo će džaba da, da tuguju
Next to me they will only mourn in vain

Jer na javi i u snu za tebe ću biti tu
Because in reality and in your dreams I'll be here for you
Dobra kad' je dobro sve dva put bolja još u zlu
I'll be good when all is good, two times better when it's bad
Na javi i u snu za tebe ću biti tu
In reality and in your dreams I'll be here for you
Mirne ruke ja na dar daću tebi sebe svu
With calm hands ?? as a gift I will give you all of me

A ti ako hoćeš idi lutaj svetom i sve vidi
And if you want, go, wander the world and see everything
Neka bude tvoja ako ti se svidi neka bolja
Let her be yours if you like her better
A ti ako hoćeš idi lutaj svetom i sve vidi
And if you want, go, wander the world and see everything
Što se mora, mora samo nemoj da je neka gora
What you need to do, you need to do, just don't let her be worse [than me]

Džaba mi dobacuju i piće mi naručuju
In vain they shout for me and order me drinks
Džab je džaba krš i lom gde god banem subotom
    ??
Džaba samo trude se i bez srama nude se
In vain they make an effort and without shame they offer themselves
Samo me nerviraju, smaraju i gube se
They only upset me, ?? and lose themselves

Džaba, can it also mean like for free?

You are right džaba in this context means in vain but it can also mean - for free; cheap

Džaba svi me gledaju, džaba za mnom umiru
All watch me in vain, in vain they die for me

If you tell someone - Umirem za tobom! It's something like - I am totally crazy about you!

Mirne ruke ja na dar daću tebi sebe svu
With calm hands ?? as a gift I will give you all of me

    - yes well.. it's like "My hand wont tremble when I give you ... "

...ako ti se svidi neka bolja
if you find a better one (that you like)

Džaba mi dobacuju i piće mi naručuju
In vain they shout for me and order me drinks

hm... they don't shout for her.. they are like.. you know what construction workers do when women pass buy? lol
    dobaciti C (pf.) dobaclvati D (imp.) = to call out;

Džab je džaba krš i lom gde god banem subotom
    ??

I guess first word is a mistake and should be Džaba but it's still very difficult to translate.. : In vain, in vain I trash every place where I crash on Saturdays

Samo me nerviraju, smaraju i gube se
They only upset me, ?? and lose themselves

smarati is from smoriti/zamoriti and I guess we can say it's a slang word meaning - they are so boring that they make me tired. So, you can translate that one as:
They just annoy me, bore me and get lost in the story

Great translation anyhow.. Especially this -
Dobra kad' je dobro sve dva put bolja još u zlu
I'll be good when all is good, two times better when it's bad

Thanks for the great aid and explanation!

Think I mentioned earlier that I lived in Zagreb for one year. Since 1,5 years I'm back in Sweden and doesn't speak that often. I am so happy I found this forum. It's a great way of practising and get feedback when there's no jugge close by.

(jugge ~= 'yugo'. more politically correct = person of south eastern european descent although the Yugoslavs gestarbeiter in Sweden identified themselves as jugge in the 60's/70's, now some Croats, Serbs, Montenegrins etc may be offended)
