Solved: Who sings this funky oldie??

I recorded a song 12 years ago from the radio then went out looking for the album a few months later. Never could find it and the tape is long since lost. From what I remember the artist was called Smith, something like "Dustin" or "Dalston". It's a funky track, maybe from the 70's. Here's some sample lyrics:

"I dont know if I can make it the cost of living is goin stone crazy"
"Sunshine I know will follow the rain, lets boogie on down let the good times roll again". Then he says "I wanna know if I can blow", followed by a funky sax solo.

Does it ring any bells? Any help is appreciated this is killing me!
