Great lyrics!! It's no doubt that here in ATL, we are une foule sentimentale...![]()
A solidarity song in the middle of the 20th century: Georges Brassens was a visionary in addition of being hell a of lyricist!
Here's another Georges, Giuseppe of his real name: Georges Moustaki.
Born in Alexandria from Greek parents speaking Italian, he's the definition itself of a cosmopolitan artist.
So... He came in Paris in 1951 and had some varied jobs, especially barman in a piano bar, which led him to hear our good old singer G. Brassens! For him it was a revelation. So it's no coincidence that he changed his name for Georges, and became a songwriter.
He first wrote this song for Serge Reggiani but Serge refused to sing the ballad (perhaps too much of a bohemian poet's biography). So Georges Moustaki did the cover, which became a success and boosted his career as a singer.
