amaryn, if I may suggest: "upon" is normally a nicer (more poetic) word to use in formal writing. But in this case, while also reducing the last line to 3 syllables, on your soul would be stronger, more concrete, and thus (at least for me) more meaningful

I'm sorry I couldnt make you laugh Ola I had a really good one as I was drifting off to sleep, but then when I woke up I couldnt remember. Back to the game!

I often get lots of funny ideas in that twilight zone between wakefulness and sleep. Sometimes I get up and write them down, more often I don't. I could use a few laughs :-/
