No. It is 3-5-3 (ma-ri-na-ted hopes = 5). You are only obliged to pick the last line of the previous poem; after that, you're basically free to do anything. Most English haikus are 3-5-3 or 5-7-5 but if you read Japanese haiku in English translation, the syllable count looks very different. And the American haiku inverts the lines, often into 5-3-5 and 7-5-7.
Here is an interesting look into the history of Japanese senryu (technically the same as haiku, but about humans, not nature - haiku is only about nature).
