Let me lead you,
friends,
- inspire, even -
seven times seven lifetimes from now,
when I have learned myself.

My sun is less
to All Things That Are
than this grain of sand
sleeping on the palm of my hand
is to all the grains of sand
on the palm of the hand
of Mother Earth;
yet even that
pales in comparison
to the vastness of my ignorance:
an endless enormitude
only superseded by the ignorance of you,
O race of men.

I pray for the thousands who love,
I pray for the thousands who hate
that they may find in each other
their very own heart and fate.
I pray for the thousands who kill,
I pray for the thousands who die
that all of them together
may be the essence of life.
I pray for my billion selves,
who fill the world sevenfold
that I may always remember
which story I choose to be told.
Take a woman,
throw her down the well of my soul,
see if she floats;
if yes,
squeeze her through the black hole of my thoughts,
see if she breathes;
if yes,
drill seven-foot holes in her eyes,
pour my hazel gaze down them,
see if it goes all the way in;
if yes,
kiss her thrice:
once on the lips,
once on the heart,
once on the soul,
see if she shivers;
if yes,
wrap her in the cloak of my love,
place the shoes of my devotion on her feet,
crown her with my faith,
then firmly hold her,
and, never looking back,
leap off the cliff of the known.

I am, Sherlock. I finally figured out how to make sure I'll find my soulmate and I reckon that's worth liking.
God's physician examined mankind and gave his diagnosis:
"Insufficientia amoris."
Time is always right
even when it might
not always tell us the answer
in time.
A poem inspired by Jacques Brel's "Chanson de Christophe".

I alight on your shore
je vais découvrir d'autres mondes
your sand is soft yet coarse
comme un autre Colomb
I look to your hills
I will climb them, if you will
and in the valleys beyond
je vais découvrir d'autres mondes.
The time is come,
petite île,
I will break your loneliness.
The time is come,
n'aie pas peur
I will tame your lioness.
The time is come,
pour découvrir
si ce monde est toujours ronde
the time is come;
I am done with the seas.
Et nous verrons,
petite île,
of what we've woven our dreams:
will they hold,
or their smoldering
ruins all we will see.
Venu le temps
le temps des rêves
in which all dreams that are true
must face up
to the real
flesh-and-blood me and you.
Viens avec moi
n'aie pas peur
I will climb your highest peak,
vers la lune
petite soeur,
we will find out where we are weak,
nous verrons
comme Colomb
if the world is truly round;
découvrirons,
courte ou longue,
what this life is all about.

I'd like to request a translation please.
Hmm, it's straightforward enough... I'm mostly just picking lines from Brel's poem. But, for whatever it may be worth, here's an approximate:
I alight on your shore
I am going to discover other worlds
your sand is soft yet coarse
like some other Columbus
I look to your hills
I will climb them, if you will
and in the valleys beyond
I am going to discover other worlds.
The time is come,
little island,
I will break your loneliness.
The time is come,
have no fear
I will tame your lioness.
The time is come,
to discover
if this world is still round
the time is come;
I am done with the seas.
And we will see,
little island,
of what we've woven our dreams:
will they hold,
or their smoldering
ruins all we will see.
The time is come
the time of dreams
in which all dreams that are true
must face up
to the real
flesh-and-blood me and you.
Come with me
have no fear
I will climb your highest peak,
towards the moon
little sister,
we will find out where we are weak,
we will see
like Columbus
if the world is truly round
in which
it must be that she
will learn what all my dreams are all about.
Thank you - I speak zilch french![]()
Oh, I thought you couldn't get through a school in this country without learning some. Or at least attempting to learn![]()
You thought wrong, schools are free to teach any language they wish and so there is no set rule for it being french. Spanish, German, and Latin are all just as popular - even more so. I took Arabic.
Turning back,
I see a chain of gifts:
moment strung to moment,
meandering through eternity
from where I stand
to where I stand.
