Learning Bulgarian language

I’m trying to learn Bulgarian since last summer. Finally I can understand (that’s why I don’t come here for translations), but I find it really hard to speak. I found a book and I’m trying to learn it better, I read texts, I do exercises, but there are not the answers, so I can’t see what I did wrong… Could you please check them (if it’s not a big trouble) and correct any mistakes? Lol I also tried to translate the sentences just for practice, xaxa don't laugh!

Α) Fill the empty spaces using the known adjectives:

01. Пиша с червен молив. (=I write with red pencil.)
02. Палтото ми е черен. (=My coat is black.)
03. Къщата е чиста. (=The house is clean.)
04. Имам стара стая. (=I have old room.)
05. Иван има топъл пуловер. (=Ivan has warm pullover.)

23. Искаш ли сладък чай? (=Do you want sweet tea?)

B) Rewrite these sentences in plural:

03. Колко часа на ден работиш? (=How many hours do you work per day?)
-> Не работам.
04. В колко часа обядваш? (=What time do you lunch?)
-> Аз обядвам в три часа.
05. В колко часа си лягаш? (=What time do you go to sleep?)
-> Си лягам в дванайсет часа.
06. За колко часа се качваш на Черни връх?
Hmmm I don’t understand this phrase. Черни is a mountain?

Колата ми е чевръста. (=My car is fast.)(wow where did you see that word,i haven't heard it for a very long time,i think the word "чевръста" is better to use for people(more often women who are hard-working) for a "fast car" you should use "бърза кола" so the sentence became:Колата ми е бърза)

20. Искам чаша една вода. (=I want one glass of water.) I think that the right sentence is Искам една чаша вода, but in the book the empty space is after чаша.
(you are right,- "Искам една чаша вода" is the correct,but the blank can be filled in with another adjectives like:Искам чаша студена вода(i want a glass of cold water),Искам чаша минерална вода(i want a glass of mineral water)...etc...

correct: В стаите има големи огледала(first in english when you want to say that there is sth somewhere you change the phrase for prural into "there are" in bulgarian it is only in singular (има),and second the letter "я" comes into "e" in some cases when you transform a word in plural like "бял"(white-sg) and "бели"(not "бяли"-white-pl)


05. Детето на Магда е на улицата. (=Magda’s kid is in the street.)
 Детата на Магда са на улиците.
correct: Децата на Магда са на улиците(the word дете has a different plural,"т" comes to "ц")


06. Във вазата има цвете. (=In the vase there is a flower.)
 Във вазите имат цвета.
correct: Във вазите има цветя.(again the same about "there is" and "there are" in english,in bulgarian-only "има"-no plural and цвете(sg)-цветя(pl))

07. На улицата има високо дърво. (=In the street there is a tall tree.)
 На улиците имат високи дърва. (well the word "дърва" is not wrong,just it means a pieces of wood,which you put in the fire place for getting warmer haha,the right form which you have to use is "дървета" which is trees in the streets)


09. Пиша дълго писмо на мама. (=I write letter to mum.)
 Пишем дълго писма на мама.
correcet: Пишем дълги писма на мама(don't forget the plural form of the
adjectives)and the meaning of this sentence is"I write a long(дълъг) letter to mum"


13. Искам едно шише вино. (=I want а bottle of wine.)
 Искаме две шиша вита.
correct: Искаме две шишета вино(you have put the plural from not at the right place-шише is in plural,and вино stays the same)



18. Не работи в неделя! (=Don’t work on Sunday!)
 Не работете в недели!
correct: Не работете в неделя!(you tell them not to worn on saturday in general,so you use the singular or i will give you another variant:Не работете в неделите!...both are possible but i think the first one is better to use)

Well with this sentence it will be a little difficult i don't know how to exoplain but it doesn't sound good and correct this way...You have to say:"Не ми казвай къде отиваш!"But i can't explain why..maybe someother can try

-> Не елате довечера у дома!
correct: Не идвайте довечера у дома!(the same again,i can't explain....)


03. Чакай ме пред театъра! (=Wait me in front of the theatre!)

Pay attention of the word order.the correct sentence is:"Не ме чакай пред театъра!"


04. Започнете да четете! (=Start to read!)
-> Не започнете да четете!
correct: Не започвайте да четете!


05. Кажете му къде да отиде! (=Tell him where to go!)
-> Не кажете му къде да отиде!
correct: Не му казвайте къде да отиде!


06. Отворете му вратата! (=Open the door!) the translation is "open the door for him"
-> Не отварете му вратата!
Again the word order and the verb "отворете" doesn't sound appropriate..the correct sentence is: Не му отваряйте вратата!


08. Дайте ни книгите! (=Give us the books)
-> Не дайте ни книгите!
correct: Не ни давайте книгите!



09. Затвори прозореца! (=Close the window!)
-> Не затвори прозореца!
correct: Не затваряй прозореца!


10. Радвай се! (=Be happy!)
-> Не радвай се!
correct: Не се радвай!(just the word order)


12. Дай му вода! (=Give him water!)
-> Не дай му вода!
Correct: Не му давай вода!


13. Тръгни веднага! (=Start immediately!)(i would translate it as "Go immediately")

Well,Maria..it is pity but i can't explain why we change the verbs this way..i hope someone who has idea can explain you,until now learn these i have told you

hm..and about the adjective "чевръст" i don't know why they had put it in the text-it is a word with old use,every often met in the folklore songs..well at least i have met it there....

Hehe I'm learning alone without teacher. And this book is so weird, it doesn't explain everything with details, but it's the only one I could find in greek. Anyway, I'm trying.

Here we have a lot of books for self - learning Greek, but only one workbook with exercices.

Maria, do you have in Greece that publishing PONS? Here they offer self teaching book made in english for foreigners. I belive if there is you can order it.

Ahahhahaahhaa. Имало е грешка в книжката ли. Хахахх Ако си купила тая същаъта която съм показал накартинката не се учудвам. Все пак виж кой е издаттеля.

хах ами не е същата и не е само една грешка :d:d:d:d значи..заглавието й е "Да проговорим гръцки с 40 урока" и в началото започва с много елементарни неща,неща които знаех много преди това и натам предполагам че се усложняват-не знам,аз съм стигнала до 8 урок,но я прегледах набързо-иначе като цяло е добре-вярно не всичко е обяснено,но пък затова аз имам кой да питам и ми е много мерак да го науча гръцкия....

The name of the book is ΜΕΘΟΔΟΣ ΕΚΜΑΘΗΣΗΣ ΤΗΣ ΒΟΥΛΓΑΡΙΚΗΣ ΓΛΩΣΣΑΣ (=method of learning Bulgarian language) by malliaris paideia. I don't know maybe I'm stupid, but I hardly can understand bulgarian grammar! They don't even translate the examples, thank God I can undestand. But I can't speak and that is killing me!

I think that we have books by PONS editions, but if i remember well I've seen german books.

hahah don't worry maria,if you hear me speaking greek-you will laugh a lot at my pronunciation...that's because we don't have a chance to speak with anyone...but i really want to learn it

Xaxa don't even mention pronunciation! I can't pronounce some bulgarian words and I read like a 5 years old girl, lol very embarrassing.

the most important is that you can read and you will learn to do it better as you read more booksI have any difficulties with many greek words too,but after i finish school in one month i will start more seriously studying it
