Hey! Looks like you have quite a strong Persian contingent in your show biz! :-)

    Thanks for this, Rose!

or "Mamnoon-todah!" I should rather say in this case.

I especially liked the first song very much! And when I heard him sing "Azizam" I knew I was at home!

    Hey Paul
    I'm well thanks.
    I trust you're fine too.
I'm happy to see you got to know Ehud Banay ...He's one of my few favorite Israeli singers.
I love his song Avoda Sh'chora ...(Black work ...also a phrase for manual labour)
The lyrics describe Ethiopian Jews being looked down in Israel while being originally the sons of Abraham and as such deserve an equal treatment. He is BRILLIANT !!!!! In my opinion he's one of the most talented singers song writers in Israel if not the BEST !!!
Amazing lyricist ...gifted composer...such a nice humble person.
I had the good fortune to attend his first show EVER 24 years ago ..and he is as relevant today as he was back then.
Listen to some of his best songs ...while I'll do my best to have them translated as soon as possible.
The Banay family is almost like the Jacksons in the States...so many gifted singers and actors came from this clan.
I think you'll also be interested in Meir Banay and Evyatar Banay...I wonder which one you'll like best.
    Here is Avoda Sh'chora ...

Dark complexion brothers who are coming from Ethiopia
bring with them a magnificent ancient tradition
The lost sons after the journey's hardship
slowly discover the far away land
They have dreamt about it for years and now it's reality
When they are told to be baptized, to wash away the innocence
and I've seen a light in their eyes
who knows if Abraham wasn't black.

Dark complexion brothers in an immigration center in Tveria (Tiberius)
are trying to take in and be taken in and it's not easy
From the bonfire , beyond the dark mountains
to the local digital confused street
They've been dreaming about a home for years
    and now it's reality
It happens at home as well. Exile continues.

And I saw a light in their eyes
who know if Abraham wasn't black

Dark complexion brothers, barefoot on the side of the road
are taking their insult (while) walking to the city
They stand in front of the building.
They stand in front of a heart of stone
waiting for door to be opened from the inside
They were faithful (loyal) , yes, they've been waiting for the news
And now all that's left is black work.

Ehud Banay and the Refugees 1987

One of the most shameful episodes of discrimination to which he is relating is the spilling of their blood donations which was suspected to be contaminated with Aids. That led to a huge demonstration ...."walking their insult to the city"

The child is thirty ....a more current song of Ehud Banay

    [ol2qnIlWKUM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol2qnIlWKUM&feature=related[/video]

The child is 30, he has a high fever,
he is lying on the couch at his parents' house...
Yes, he's thirty, he's got a high fever,
he returns to his childhood room.

Mom comes and says: "Drink something hot"...
He gets angry and says: "No, not now !"
He looks at the old bookcase...
    stories that accompanied his life.

Please, hurry up and put a bandage to my heart
before you put tuck me in,
tell me about the boy I used to be -
how happy I was with the first rain...

The child is 30, he has a high fever,
    He's workless and loveless.
Yes, he's thirty, but still doesn't know
what he'll do when he finishes his military service

Mom comes and says: "Come for a little while to the living room"...
He gets angry and says: "No, not now !"
looking at the old records shelf -
the songs that accompanied his life.

Please, hurry up and put a bandage on my heart
    before you tuck me in,
and tell me about the boy I used to be -
how happy I was with the first rain...

Now, so far away, you're facing a twinkling star.
You returned to my house, yes, now you're with me,
I call my daughter in your name now.

The child is 30, he has a high fever,
he is lying on the couch at his parents' house.
Yes, he's thirty, he has a high fever,
he returns to his childhood room.

When Mom comes and says: "You have a letter"
the spark suddenly comes back to his eyes,
he smells the approaching rain in the air
which brings the love of his life.

Please, hurry up and put a bandage on my heart
    before you tuck me in,
tell me about the boy I used to be -
how happy I was with the first rain...

    Today we'll do something unforgettable
that would leave a memory of blessed joy
Today I'd reach out to pat your head
Today I'll finally make you smile

Today I'll banish sadness from your eyes
I'll make today the happiest in your life
Today you're going to hear something you've never heard
I'll do something new and turn on your look
    Today
Today I'll cook something nice for you
I'll do everything to make you feel good
    It's true. I don't always show love
but today I'm asking for intimacy
    Today
It's been a long time since the two of us spoke
    about everything we go through
Today we'll take a walk in the neighborhood
We'll sit together on the bench in the park for a while
    Today we'll do something unforgettable
that would leave a memory of blessed joy
Today I'd reach out to pat your head
Today I'll finally make you smile

    Dear Batel,
Have you read any POlish magazines by any chance?
In one of the recent editions of a popular weekly "Polityka" there was a big article on the Ethiopian Jews written by their Polish correspondent based in Jerusalem. Very critical about how they have been treated by the rest of the society.
Ehud's lyrics are great! Especially the passage on ABraham. BTW, I'm sure he was Black, most of our ancestors were darker than we are today!
I'll let you know about the other Banays as soon as I've youtubed them!

To finish it off with other world affairs - the recent offer by the Israeli Government to help the victims of the quake in the Van area (melted my heart) and the Turkish Gov's reaction to this offer says much about both nations, don't you think?

PS. You're absolutely right, I'm so fine, thanks too!

    Dear Paul
I love the new Israelis, Ethiopian Jews. Many of my neighbours came from Ethiopia.
They are so beautiful. They have such delicate features...like God had carved their faces himself with tons of love and very close attention.
They are also a very gentle community, quiet and very gifted in athletics.
My son used to practice running with a couple of boys and he loved them so much he'd go their houses and learn how to make their food.
He ADORES black people. When he was younger he asked me to knit him a hat and I did a pattern that says B BL BLA BLAC BLACK.
It's a homage to a religious group called Nachman of Breslav ...they are a kind of Hipi Jews. Their goal is to make people happy while practicing religion so they drive around in vans with HUGE speakers and play religious songs arranged in studios to TRANS music. They also knit white hats that say "Na nach nachma nachman"
Back to Ethiopian Jews in Israel. Most of them have assimilated well in Israel but just like every modern soicety there is a tendency to patronize the "weak" and immigrants by definition are weaker than veterans.
Every couple of years a story is released regarding this beautiful community.
You hear about a school that refused to accept them, or a premise of decresing real estate value due to their presence in neighborhoods.
Despite the fact that this is a "normal" social process, I expect Israeli Jews to be BETTER than the rest of the world in accepting the "other".
We were persecuted for so many years and we should set an example on how to embrace diversity.

In the case of Turkey...their stupid reaction to our offer speaks for itself.
Sacrificing your own people to make a political statement.

I'll share your post with my neighbours ...they'll be amazed to hear that their issues are discussed in Polish press.

    Thanks for that info.

Trust me on that one! Those eyes of a roe-deer are totally innocent! He wouldn't be able to hurt a flee. And even if his personal life is very private then in his songs or videos he's making some blunt statements, no?

I sincerely hope your Ethiopian-Jewish neighbours don't know much about Poles and their most ignorant and racist ways; otherwise they might react with their brows raised in sheer astonishment

As to your son, well the only (rather obvious) comment I might make is: Like mother, like son! Small wonder, after all , he's God's grandson, right?!
Anyways, I'm proud of you both, if you don't mind it!

What did they do, refuse the help? I guess they are still mad about the Gaza boat incident.

Yes, exactly! First they refused then they finally accepted. It was their initial refusal we both meant in our comments. Pride & honour rarely are good advisors .

They conditioned their willingness to accept Israel's assistance in not normalizing diplomatic relations.
    Sweet , right ?
They are doing US a favour by accepting our help.
