That is not 100% sure... In fact many bulgarian scientists say that we never were part of the turkic rase.

well given your more recent history with the turks, the ottoman empire and the "slavery" and whatnot, flat denial due to a wish to distance yourselves as far from them as possible is to be expected, is it not?

yes that's true they distance themselves as far from them as possible from turks

but I learned bulgars (protobulgarians) were people which came more from huns than turks (and my proffesors are quite disinterested) and that knowledge isn't sure because it was in ages like IV soooo quite long ago :P And then bulgars mixed with slovians and made bulgarians we don't have many written stuff about those times so we can't be 100% sure, we're just supposing

well, the huns were a turkic people, i believe, so the relation remains. much diluted blood now though, for sure.

tedi: we're not generally stupid, but like i told you on skype, unfortunately the average british person doesn't need to know about little countries far to the east, and if there's no need, then most simply don't care enough to make the effort to learn about them. i'm sorry if that's offensive to you, but it's just how it is, and to turn round and insult the intelligence of a whole nation just because they're not clued up about your own country isn't exactly very smart either, is it?

i make no bones about it, i wish we did pay attention to the world outside our borders as a whole, europe in particular. we look bad because we don't, god knows i don't want britain to end up as insular as america is.

I just have always wondered why my classmates are so fascinated by UK ... because,honestly, i got some impression of the Uks (yeah,i'm sorry for that but just my impression) and for many other westerns (i noticed the same with some Dutch ppl) that they know little not only about Bulgaria but for a very big part of the world
and when Tofik said that I just told "haha,so my impressions have been the truth iteslf" that's why i said i've always considered the British ppl among the stupid ones (yep,i'm sorry again, i don't mean neither u, nor Louise, actually u both were a very nice surprise for me).

And I've never said I'm too smart, neither the Bulgarians.. just we have studied and read a lot about UK and rest of the west and it's kinda not fair that we should know so much about u and u consider us something that doesn't deserve being aknoledged.

The english are stupid, rascit, lazy, facscit and have no concern for others but themseleves and dont care about any other country but england and the uk follows america round like a lil puppy dog! and when they see forgein people there mean to them...which i think is awful just because they are too lazy and dont work...the forgeirn people whom do work and for not much pay are ofcourse going to take there jobs and further more they never stop to think WHY the forgein people have moved countries....probably here to seek a better likfe and the horrid english people just make it worse for them...no offence to the english

I agree with you tedi....and thanks (hug)...im glad it was a nice surprise..however there are only 2 of us in the UK we are very rare ....and im not too smart either espically not at maths

За датчаните не съм толкова сигурен... Имам една приятелка датчанка. И по едно време я питах знае ли нещо за България и тя ми разказа доста неща. Не го подозирах. Естествено, не ми цитира историята по години и т.н., но знаеше къде се намираме, знаеше, че сме част от ЕС, че сме създателите на кирилицата и т.н. Останах втрещен. В Дания има доста българи, така че не се очудвам.

За справка - Повечето англичани дори не знаят, че сме в Европейския Съюз...

А за скандинавците казах вече - те отдавна са ми направили много добро впечатление

hunny , again according to my impressions - i don't think of the English ppl as lazy ones for the racist - i think there is something like that, and about USA all the ppl here have the same opinion - that UK is a servant of USA...
but if u ask most of my ex-classmates (and as I see, most of my current colleagues at uni) which is the best country according to them - UK

Finland rocks (literally)... Sweden...hm... why not...

... though I can't say the same about the languages... neither Swedish, nor Norwegian or Danish can attract me... I've never heard icelandic and I find Finnish the best of all them (maybe cause it has nothing in common with them ;p)

I think it depends from person to person. Not that in USA or Canada they don't study world geography and basic history, it's just that here they have that system where if you're not interested in a subject, you don't have to take it untill you graduate. It's not like in BG, where we have to study history from grade 5-12 which in my opinion, it's quite unnecessary. For instance, when I was in school here in Canada, we had to make a map of the world, choose 50 or so countries and make them a profile - HDI, GDP, etc. Yes, it was educational, I know where all these countries are and how people live in them but that was enough - I don't need to study the history of every single one of them. Put aside the fact that we had to study and write essays about different conflict zones, and then listen to others' presentations about other conflict zones ...
So, my point is that we cannot just say "Yes, they're stupid in Britain, USA..." without ever personally experiencing life and education in this particular country. That's just hasty generalizations based on prejudices and poor experience... :]

**In this train of toutgh, I wonder how Bulgarian kids that are born now will turn out in 20 years.. with all the good old teachers that are retiring now or .. dying... >.<
