Learning Serbian /Croatian/Bosnian

apf, ppl why don't u talk to me in Serbian? That I can't still apeak it very well doesn't mean I don't understand it
In no one of our books (written by Serbian linguists) is clearly explained the rule about the use of the Vocativ case ..

Ljudi sa sela, ovde u brdsko-planinskim predelima i oni malo stariji, koriste vokativ sa O u ženskom rodu Tako se nekad pričalo, valjda. Inače taj jezik je blizak bugarskom
I moja baba se dere u telefon, zato što ona sama ne čuje pa to projektuje na druge.
A ovo važi i za muški rod za muške nadimke koji se završavaju na -a, tj, jedan moj fancy drug se vređa ako ga neko zove Peđo, a ne Peđa (a profesorka srpskog ga je zvala Peđo)

Ta profesorka nije bas sva svoja Neeee verujem da je Peđo ispravno
Mene su uvek iritirala imena tipa Predrag ->> Predraže
Mnogo je lakse Predrag ->> Predrag i zdravo

А mislim, neku Teodoru kod vas zovete "Tea" lol

Pa ne znam Spring o profesorki i vokativu nadimka Peđa, ja sam želela da pomenem kratko psihosocijalni aspekt njegovog ponašanja (pojava uočljiva nakon '90-ih)

Hi! I'm new on this forum, I've read all the posts of this thread, and I've seen that so much people has the same problem that I have. I'm half serbian and half italian, but I know only few things about serbian. My father couldn't teach me language before because he travelled very much for works, and subsequently he left us. So I've had to learn all myself, only with internet and a vocabulary, because books of serbian doesn't exist here in Italy. I'm helping myself also with serbian music, with Ceca, Seka, Saša Matić, Đogani, Funky G, even if I've read from your posts that some of this aren't the best to learn language. Mi biggest problem is that I can't remember all the words in serbian, because those are very different from italian, and then cases and verbal aspect are big problems for me. How do you do to learn so much languages at the same time? I'd go crazy if I only try to learn other languages!! And also spoken serbian is difficult for me, on tv I don't understand anything!!

Mihajlo, a language is not something you learn over night. I can say I've been learning English (one way or another) for 20 years (LOL) and I'm still learning.. especially the words! Don't worry - even a Serbian doesn't know all Serbian words. So, just build a base (learn the basic grammar rules), maybe try to find a teacher to give you a few classes and then just take it from there... In normal situations, watching movies could be a good idea to get the language into your head but don't get frustrated if you watch them and don't understand a thing (I don't! ). Anyways, just take it easy! And, if music helps... even better! this is after all a music forum!

I know spring, is not since yesterday that I try to learn, it's about 5 years, but seems to me that I'm always at the starting point, I've studied the basic rules, with the help of site serbianschool.com, and if I think a lot of time maybe something I can say or write. But it's very far to have a conversation with somebody, I've even tried with serbian chat, but when they writed a word that I didn't know I had to search in vocabulary so they wrote te me that I'm 'dosadno'. I'd like to know that someone has a good mothod to improve the knowledge of language.

You know, since your English seems very good, I don't think you generally have a problem with foreign languages.. However...I think Internet is an amazing thing but for some things, such as - learning languages, it can not replace a real teacher. I seriously think you should consider taking some classes. As for the people who told you that you are 'dosadan' or who felt "da im je dosadno" - it's their problem!
I don't know how could I help you... I wouldn't be in anyone's shoes trying to learn Serbian... I even still have nightmares about our grammar and stuff from school lol but there are some members around here who are learning Serbian and getting better with it every day and I'm sure they will have some good advice and a comforting word or two for you

well im one of others here who's learnin or tryin to learn Serbian.Tell u honestly i leant it through books in internet,songs and thats iti cant say that i know it perfectly that to translate and talk,but im tryin to keep in touch with it here
i cant talk too only writtin and repeatin smth and Serbians all the time play jokes with me but i dont care i want to learn and i know one day ill get itimppossibleis possible just believe in it
and of course i dont know all words and verbs coz im havin dictionary
just dont be afraid to ask and we ll help u with learnin

Spring im havin nightmares too just its connects with Russian coz when i wake up in my mind all the time Serbian or Macedonian,seems soon ill forget Russian,damn

Well little one you have a little advantage, serbian and macedonian are very close, a lot of words are identical or alike, i've seen this in Funky G's song 'veštica iz Srbije'. Your bigger problem are cases, that in your language doesn't exist.
Thank you spring for your encouragement, but i've studied english since i was only 9 years, until 8 years ago, when i've brought to end the school. And even in english i have to help myself with vocabulary sometimes. I know that the best thing would be find a teacher, but it's not so simple. There are some guys that work in same factory where i work, but we don't work together and they live very far from me (about 200 km), then they have family and they have no time. And it seems to me they don't have so much the will to help me.
I'll continue on this way, with internet and when i can i go to Serbia, where there are my brother and my relatives. Good night to everybody!

Actually my native language is Russian which i know for 100% and Russian has and cases,and grammar almost the same like Serbian

oh sorry I though that you were macedonian, I know one man from Russia and for him it has been so simple learn croatian, he doesn't speak it very well, but at least he understand what is said, even because some words are similar in two languages, he understand also polish, how I envy him!! And you too!

Yeah ur right all Slavic languages r so similar and if u know one it wont be problem for u to understand othersbut one thing is understand and anothet to talk,u cant imagine how i wish not only understanding but talkin too

Hi people, I have a question
what's the difference between "kako je vreme" and "kakvo je vreme"? Which one is more used colloquially?
Also, what's the difference between "nikad" & "nikada", "sad" & "sada"?

You can not say "kako je vreme". That question is only used for people, e.g. "kako (ti) je mama?"- how's (your) mother? So, only "kakvo je vreme"- what's the weather like, is correct. Or, you can say "kako je tamo?", meaning =what's it like out there?

As for nikad/sad(a), both is correct and equally used but if you ask me which one is used when and if there's a rule that defines it, I have no idea and hope someone will come up with the answer!
