I have a question for serbian past tense. Why do you use "I am" when speaking in past tense?
For instance:
Sanjala sam - I dreamt
Mogla sam - I could
ect...
Also, I study bulgarian also, and in Bulgarian there is "mojat/mojata", and "moj/moja" (m/f) , meaning mine and my. What are the serbian equivalent?
Many thanks ! :-)
Great topic btw! I've been learning serbian for a while but not officially.. I can understand grammer quite well but my vocabulary isn't good.
Somebody said these make little sense?
Bejah
Bejae
Bejasmo
Bejahu etc.
well.. they make zero sense to me and I suppose I can say with 95% certainty that I have never heard anyone use those in real life lol
masarra, I have no idea how to answer the sam question.. sam would actually be only the "am" part of "I am" ..
About mine and my.. Bulgarian has different translation for those? Well, I am jealous!
only "moj/moja" (m/f) are the translation of my (mine) in Serbian
Bejah
Bejaše
Bejasmo
Bejahu etc.
lol, we have these in croatian too
Bijah
bijaše
bijasmo
bijahu
but it can be found only in books, i doubt smb use these...
''Glupost je sama u sebe zaljubljena i njeno je samoljublje bezgranično.''
''Siamo niente senza fantasie''
''Наверное мне место на луне, но страшно оставаться в темноте''

Yeah! This sounds familliar. For some reason we use these in Slovak & Czech past tense the same way (Except the 3rd person where it is left out). I would say there is no particular reason of using it and we don't sense it as "I am".
It is something similar to when I started learning English and asked why is the verb "to do" used in every question, but in fact it is just to help to form a question; not to be translated as such.
As to "my" in Serbian:
moj/moja/moje = m/f/n(neuter),
the easy part is that the above is used for both "my" and "mine".
Good luck with your Serbian Masarra!!!![]()

Youhooo!!! Great! Gimme a year and I'll speak fluent Serbian!
Anyway, I can read cyrillik now! It took me a while, but my reading got quite nice.
Btw, what's the story with "bejah..." What does it mean? Cannot find it in dictionaries![]()
I gues I need the infinitive.
Mivel mindig az okos enged, már rég a hülyék uralkodnak...
it's form of verb to be in imperfect
''Glupost je sama u sebe zaljubljena i njeno je samoljublje bezgranično.''
''Siamo niente senza fantasie''
''Наверное мне место на луне, но страшно оставаться в темноте''
