ahaha yes, of course they are still equally as Albanian as any other Albanians, there is Albanians everywhere, Montenegro , Macedonia, Greece, Italy, they might have different accents, but they are still 'Albanians' : )

also there is many good singers from kosove genta ismaili, adelina ismajli, zanfina ismajli, ermal fejzullahu, sabri fejzullahu, ilir shaqiri, nora istrefi, leonora jakupi (probably the better known Albanian singers )

now that i think of it, the most famous Albanian singers are probably from kosova and macedonia (shpat kasapi, adrian gaxha etc.) than actual albania

Shpat Kasapi is from Mcd too? wow
But I think Elvana Gjata is from Albania? She has great songs btw^^
I heard some of Adelina's songs but she isn't among my favourites. She's too orientalitic, her songs remind Turkish... maybe because of that she's muslim.

lol well predominately Albanians are Muslims, but religion has nothing to do with the type of music. The 'oriental' style is used among many Albanian singers, you hear it more with traditional music, because similar instruments are used such as the flute, string instruments etc. However, artists such as Elvana Gjata, who sing pop songs, try to imitate music from Western Europe and the United States and Canada, so i do not really consider this 'ethnic Albanian music' either since the beat, the style, the rhythm is westernized, it's just that they are singing in Albanian : )

I think some Albanians are christians too.I have on facebook-friends an Albanian girl and she's a christian-orthodox like we Bulgarians.
I generally listen to folk music too but not too"folk" mostly pop-folk So that's why for me Elvana Gjata,Adrian Gaxha,Mirsa Kerqeli and Olta Boka are the best ones from Albania.

Korab Shaqiri - Ku kam gabuar

sonte ti qesh a qan per mue
qastet nuk mundem me i harru
    mos mendo
lotin nga faqet flekeroje te kam shpirt
ne qiellin m`ndogji shtrengoi nga stuhit
    tek ty do t`vij.
sonte lotin ta pres me buz
veq nje pik ne grusht ne zemer rum
dhe ne shi me lag se un digjem
si zjarr si diell ne mbremje kur perendon

    ndoshta neser kur s`me ke
do t`menosh se sa kam vler
kur s`te shoh s`jam me ty
    dashuria nuk mbaron aty
ku kam gabuar nuk e di
    zemra jote qesh e qan
    shum sekrete brenda mban
qka na mbeti e pa then
    nga e shtrejta dashuria jon
    kjo zemra jote s`kishte qar

sonte ti qesh a qan per mue
qastet nuk mundem me i harru

Korab Shaqiri - Ku kam gabuar/ where did i go wrong

sonte ti qesh a qan per mue/ tonight, are you smiling or crying because of me
qastet nuk mundem me i harru/ i cannot forget the moments
    mos mendo/ don't think
lotin nga faqet flekeroje te kam shpirt/ the tears from your cheeks ?flekeroje?, you are my soul
ne qiellin m`ndogji shtrengoi nga stuhit/ in the sky it burned me, i hold on from the ?stuhit?
tek ty do t`vij./ i will come to you
sonte lotin ta pres me buz/ tonight i await your tears with my lips
veq nje pik ne grusht ne zemer rum/ only a drop in a fist, in a heart ?rum?
dhe ne shi me lag se un digjem/ and it wets me with the rain 'cause i am burning
si zjarr si diell ne mbremje kur perendon/ like a fire, like the sun, in the night when the sun sets

ndoshta neser kur s`me ke/ perhaps tomorrow when you don't have me
do t`menosh se sa kam vler/ you will realize/wonder how much i meant/ was worth
kur s`te shoh s`jam me ty/ when i don't see you, when i'm not with you
dashuria nuk mbaron aty/ love doesn't end there
ku kam gabuar nuk e di/ where did i go wrong, i do not know
zemra jote qesh e qan/ your heart smiles and cries
shum sekrete brenda mban/ you keep many secrets inside
qka na mbeti e pa then/ what has been left unsaid
nga e shtrejta dashuria jon/ from our expensive (highly valued) love
kjo zemra jote s`kishte qar/ this heart of yours hadn't cried

Vaçe Zela - E lumtur të dua

    ... natyra n'fshatin tone,
    lule bliri kundermon,
    syte e njome c'po shikojne
    larg n'oborrin tone.
    valle me shohin ara gruri
    stine e ... pranveror
    ndjejne flladin qe ndrin murin,
    flladin nuseror

si gonxhe, e bardhe si bora perhere,
si rreze dielli pranvere, u rritsh pa lot x2

Hmm I think this lyric is only half here But I couldn't find it anywhere else. Some help?

Very old and popular Albanian song : )

E Lumtur Te Dua - I love you happily

hesht natyra n'fshatin tone,/ nature is quiet in our village
lule bliri kundermon, / the linden flower ?kundermon?
syte e njome c'po shikojne/ what are these wet eyes seeing
larg n'oborrin tone. / far away on our yard
valle me shohin ara gruri/ maybe they are seeing fields of wheat
stine e bukur pranveror/ the beautiful season of spring
ndjejne flladin qe ndrin murin,/ they are feeling the breeze
    flladin nuseror/

si gonxhe, e bardhe si bora perhere,/ like a bud, always white like the snow
si rreze dielli pranvere, u rritsh pa lot x2/ like rays of the spring sun, i hope you grow up without any tears

te gezuare, embel si mjalt trendeline,/ they are happy, sweet like the trigonella (flower)
    ne fusha krah gjeraqine/

degjoje kengen e nenes,/ listen to the song of your mother
qe te don fort/ who loves you very much

some lines i didn't translate it's very difficult to translate, these types of songs, they meaning gets lost, so i left some lines because i didn't know how to phrase them

Jena na ata që krejt i dimë
pikë për pikë gjakun ta pimë
jena na ata që besë nuk kem'
jena na ata, ata na jem'

Jena na ata që s'dimë ku jem'

    Troja - Jena na
    [b]Torja - It's us

Jena na ata që krejt i dimë
    Its us that knows everything
pikë për pikë gjakun ta pimë
we drink your blood drop for drop
jena na ata që besë nuk kem'
its us that have no trust
jena na ata, ata na jem'
we are them, we are them

Jena na ata që s'dimë ku jem'
Its us that dont know where we are
jetojm' jetë as n'tokë as n'qiell
we live life not on ground and not in the sky
jena na ata që s'mledhim men'
its us that are out of our minds
dojmë të jem' ata që na nuk jem'
we want to be what we're not

Jena na ata që shohim n'terr
Its us that will see you in hell
    pesqin' vjet mrapa kem' met'
    we're stuck 500 years behind
s'ka met kamë o që s'na ka shkel
no foot remains that hasnt stepped all over us
jena na ata që vet nuk dojm' diell
its us that dont want the sun

    Shko në pasqyrë,
    go to the mirror
shiko vetën në sy dhe kujto(hu)
look at yourself in the eyes and remember
kush je ti, kush jemi ne,
who are you, who are we?
    kush ishim dje?!
    who were we yesterday?
    do t'thuash, do t'thuash,
    you'll say, you will say
    DO T'THUASH:
    you will say

Jena na ata që bota na njeh
its us that the world knows
vrajmë kur dojmë askush s'na sheh
we kill when we want and no one sees us
    dalim nesër askush s'na njeh
we go out (tomorrow) and no one knows us
jena na ata që na nuk jem'
we are what we are not

Jena na ata askush s'na do
its us the ones that no one loves
ndërtojmë udhë që askun s'na qon
we build the path that leads nowhere
rrejmë çdo fjalë që na e thojmë

these songs are so difficult to translate, but so good : )

Poni - Naten O Vetem O/ oh at night, oh i'm alone

Naten ere se madhe/ at night the wind is large
naten o vetem o/ oh at night, oh i'm alone
te prita mike pse se erdhe/ i waited for you my dear/friend, why didn't you come?
naten o vetem o(X2)/ oh at night, oh alone

Naten o vetem o/ oh at night, oh alone
xhan bandill te keqen o(X4)/ my dear (let me) the suiter, take the bad away from you
S'erdhe vet apo ste lane/ you didn't come (yourself)? or they didn't let you come?
naten o vetem o/ oh at night, oh alone
s'me la nena me babane/ my mother and father didn't let me come
naten o vetem o/ oh at night, oh alone

s'me kalon serbes serbes/ you don't pass freely
naten o vetem o/ oh at night, oh on your own
ja do te marr moj/ i will either take you to be mine
ja do te vdes/ or i will die
naten o vetem/ oh at night, oh alone

Naten o vetem o/ oh at night, oh alone
xhan bandill te keqen o/ let I the suitor take the bad away from you

it's hard to translate 'te keqen', but say someone loves you a lot they may say 'ta mar te keqen', which means like 'let me take the bad away from you (because they love you so much), something like this

bandil: is a word commonly used in folk songs meaning like the suiter or person who has fallen for the girl

serbes(serbest): means to go easily and freely or 'go as you please'
