Dmoney, I agree with Zahra; if they're strict then you should definitely leave any bad words out, and avoid even slang like "chido", "chale", etc. Also, try not to kiss or touch your girl in front of them and avoid making remarks referring to sex. Make some nice respectful compliments to her mom. Concerning the 3 ticklish topics of politics, religion and football, avoid them unless you're sure you're in the same "frequence" with themBuena suerte!!!

woah, even chido? damn, i just picture being like that around some of my homeboys' moms (most are straight paisas jaja). i talk to them just like they're my friends (except i use usted when i talk to them). i think i'm good then, the rest of that stuff is pretty basic. just wanna make sure there's nothing i may not know, that could ruin everything if i'm not careful. thanks

Hehe... well, if the family is super strict yes, it's best to avoid any sort of slang and bad words altogether
if they are just average strict I think you could get away with slang, and since you're a foreigner they won't be too offended if a "small" bad word slips out of your lips every now and then (like "pinche",) and they may even find it funny; however, it won't be funny at all if one of the big words such as "culero", "cabrón", "verga", "ojete", etc, slips away, those words are to be avoided at any cost, ok?
Concerning "chale", it can have many translations, I think in most cases it's something like "no way!", "yeah... sure!" and it's a bit sarcastic. I found a thread about this word and I thought you may find it interesting:

Mares: tu puedes dormir todo el dia el 9 de Julio. Espero te estes sintiendo mejor; deja la pintura por unos dias y recuerda de abrir las ventanas mientras no estes en casa, se que hace frio por alla, pero es necesario ahora.
