On tonight's episode of the game show
Jeopardy!, the category for the "Final Jeopardy" question was... ROCK & ROLL! And the question was (slightly rephrased):

A restaurant chain took its name from a British rock group's fourth #1 hit, this 1967 song.

    What was the song?

(Hint: It's been posted in this topic.)

Amethyste 'mano, I could've sworn that I posted some Grand Funk Railroad 2-3 weeks ago. Major thumbs up for An American Band, I had an extreme classic moment listening to that fine old song.

Tessluv, I had to think hard to come up with a follow for that extreme Gothic set. But, in the end, it was almost too easy. And aside from Black Sabbath, I believe this is a first post for this Rock legend:

I'm still not sure about the reason I wanted to post this totally strange ballad, I just thought it as a must have in the list.
Well to my ears, obviously, this sounds rock enough.

And she's a Hapsburg! descendant of the dynasty through her maternal grandfather. And so we have even more aristocracy in our presence

Well I could also understand the reason for which you may have heard the name of the following artist and know nothing about him since he has succeeded in almost every country of the planet EXCEPT the US.

We're talking about a person who "entered the Guinness Book of World Records for selling 1.6 million tickets of his Close Encounters Tour in a single day"

And what if there's not a single guitar solo in the following song, I can assume that only it's lyrics are able to add this one to a hall of fame

"I had a conversation with a girl in a pool in Singapore.

She said, 'How do you write a song?'

I said,'You write about anything that comes to mind: give me two things

and I will write a song for you this afternoon.'

    She said, 'Monkeys and rollerblades.'"

    That's what Robbie Williams says,

but is there another story that those lyrics describe ?

Default Bon Jovi - These Days

well i can't argue at all that Robbie is a totally awesome lyricist and the lyrics of 'Me and my monkey' even sound awesomely American! but i do understand why he hasn't made it so big in the American rock world....for one thing it's like when he performed 'We Will Rock You' live there is too much of his vocal and not enough Rock! (the music) But i MUST say that he sang it really well even though he's not Freddie

Just throwing this one song out here as a tribute to the greatness of another Hall Of Famer that now seems bigger than life itself...love the lyrics.....

    I was walking around
Just a face in the crowd
Trying to keep myself out of the rain
Saw a vagabond king wear a styrofoam crown
Wondered if I might end up the same
There's a man out on the corner
    Singing old songs about change
Everybody got their cross to bare
    These days......

    LOVE that triple play <3

I've been trying not to be so rigidly focused on Goth/Dark Wave but my friends keep reminding me, and last weekend one of them brought up a song that made me remember a favorite 'moment' from school...ca. 2002. One of my teachers used some tracks by Theater Of Tragedy to perk our interest in how the English language developed from Old to Middle and Early Modern English and so on. And then throw in some Scot and Irish vernacular and you have a total mess but all of that chemistry is just one aspect of the song below that is so attractive to me...trying to actually understand what they're saying as i listen. The lyrics are in the video description...

oh and the song doesn't start until about 0:24 so don't adjust your volume, just WAIT for it
and be sure to catch 'Part 2' of the vocals at about 3:59....

    Aégis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aégis

"The subject matter is drawn from a range of European folklore and history: Venus and Poppæa are from Roman sources; Aœde, Cassandra, Bacchante and Siren are drawn from Greek mythology; while Lorelei refers to a Nix from German stories."
