@Teshka Rocket Queen in the vid you posted, I can say it's much better than the original.
Slash never was a guitar-virtuoso but his soul is recognizable in his solos.

@MoonRide*r* Yes, Billy Joel, Cheap Trick a strong combination which made my following hard. Good picks mate!

Not sure if this is the first spanish group on our list, but it's certainly the first spanish rock band to have an international hit single.

Well this is another example of a cover being MUCH better than the original.
Anyway .... I love this song so I can't have a realistic opinion about it.

Took away our ways of life

The tomahawk and the bow and knife

    Took away our native tongue

And taught their English to our young

Oooh man what a classic! Black Is Black.., that is so fine me matey. And in truth, I had no idea those guys were Spaniards.

[i[Christie - Yellow River[/i]... Git outa here man, I used to jump all over myself whenever I heard that song!

Paul Revere... man, that song (and group) dragged the darkest corners in the basement of my mind. And it made me wish I still had access to the record collections of my brother and his wife, especially hers because she had some really great stuff. I wore out at least 2 record players, spinning the albums and 45's she had.

Anyway, you're really on a roll lately bro!

Hmm... Well the only thing I've got in my to-do list right now is some 'Tejano' / Mex-Spanish. Hope that'll be close enough...
But yeah, Santana. Mexi-Cubano is always near the top of my list.

Tool is way too deep for my simple mind.

Yes maybe Vega was reffering to child abuse and domestic violence when she was singing the next lines, but philosophically speaking this is where mind goes whenever any kind of violence starts.

After that you don't ask why

You just don't argue anymore ...

I really need to look up Klaus Nomi when i have more time, love that music score and he was such an interesting performer! I don't know if I've ever heard him before....

Yea domestic violence, but I agree with your thinking.....
and i really can't ever understand why anyone would even hang around anymore to talk or argue or anything. I would just leave.

Mine may seem a little unusual as well, especially startkng with a rapper guy that sounds more country-ish here than anything else .......a social statement...love the vid

I once had a friend (of a friend) who was born in Mexico City from "High Society", i.e., Euro-Spaniard blood (and money). She carried a noticeable "attitude" about her American-Spaniard kindred. So even here, it remains a "point of discussion". ... which I always avoid at all costs. I don't really care where, or how, or to-whom-and-what a person was born.

I'm just a big fan of ELO. But to each his own, needless to say.

"And I was so much older then

... Yep, amen to that too (the whole thing). NICE selection!

The thing about Spanish music (per se) on this side of Atlantis (I mean the Atlantic) is that it has its own flair. A brand all its own really. And for me it conjures a whirl of thoughts and impressions. For example:

Yes, Santana is de Mexico, but I grew up hearing about his Afro-Cubano style, which incorporates two other islands. And for a time one of those islands seemed as much "Russian" as "American". Comprendes? But I digress...

For this round, I came up with the theme title "The Culturalization of (a) Rock."

Please pardon the pun. You can interpret those five words any way you like, 'coz I intend it to mean at least two different things. ...

    1. The "Rock" is the Americas (all of it), and it's also the Music (all of it).
    2. The other implication is not so kind. Can a rock be cultured at all?

But Yes! Indeed it can! (By some definition anyway.) And here I might mention (for starters) a certain legendary cadre from Chicago, visiting New Orleans, singing about some other island(s) called the Bahamas.....

"Is there anything in particular you would like to hear this evening, your Highness?"

    "Yes. Do something Caribbean."

"... Ah... Ma'am, we're the Blues Brothers. We do blues, rhythm 'n' blues, jazz, funk, soul; we can handle rock, pop, country, heavy metal, fusion, hip hop, rap, Motown, operetta, show tunes; in fact, we've even been called upon, on occasion, to do a Polka. However, Caribbean is a type of music (I regret to say) which has not been, is simply not, nor will ever be, a part of this band's repertoire."

    ZZZZZZZAP.

Default Sir Douglas Quintet (Doug Sahm) - She's About a Mover

And then there's Texas (that "whole other country"). The little spot of rock we stole from los Mexicanos... who (in their turn) stole it from the Aztecas... who stole it from... ah never mind.

Doug Sahm, himself a Texan, has quite a history in music. He founded the Sir Douglas Quintet, and he was also co-founder of the Texas Tornados.
    ... (Meet Me In Stockholm)...

This song title is an American(?) colloquialism: In this case, the word about means definitely. Like, "WHOA Yeah." ...
That 2/4 thing with the organ (could also be an accordion) is the biggest clue to this song's genre, a.k.a > Tejano < (which also has other meanings).
