Cool Gülben Ergen – Şans (2002) (Translated)

    Hi my friends,
This time I dare to translate a more complicated song.
If you've found any errors, plz let me know.

I want to dedicate this translation to Milena, Kibele and Selim.

Gülben Ergen – Şans (The Chance)

    Kalbine hakkını verdim
I paid my dues to your heart
    Gül dedin yollara serdim
"Smile on" you said, I laid my heart
    Keyfini başkası sürdü
Someone else lived with (this) pleasure
    Affedersem namerdim
    If I forgive you, I'm a poltroon

    Belli ki şansım dönecek
    Certainly, my chance will return
    Aşk dolu günler gelecek
    Loving days will come
    Ümidi kesmedi kalbim
My heart didn't lose its hope
    Biliyorum sevilecek
I know it will be loved

    Senden uzakta yalnızım aşk
Faraway from you, my lonesome love
    Alay ediyorlar gülüyorlar
They poke fun (at you), they laugh (at you)
    Karşıma öyle birini çıkar
    Anyone who encounters me
    Sen yaparsın biliyorlar
    They know, you do it.

Default some notes on your translation

    hi clever,

I've laid some notes below which I think they will help you on some points

    Gül dedin yollara serdim
"Smile on" you said, I laid my heart
    *problem of double meaning

You said "rose", I've laıd (many of them) (up)on the roads
goftî "gol", gozâştam xaylî bar râh-hâ(?)
*what's word for "to lay" in farsi?

    Senden uzakta yalnızım aşk
Faraway from you, my lonesome love (*translation of yalnız aşkım)
Faraway from you, I'm alone, Love
dûr az tô, tanhâm (*tanhâ hastam), 'eşq

    Karşıma öyle birini çıkar(t)
    Anyone who encounters me
    *this is imperative (order)(causal)
make someone like him(*or this) face me (or confront me)

    see you

    Cool

Thank you so much Selim, I owe you so much, my friend.

I am so happy that, I've learned three points in Turkish Language from you.

You're a very good and patient teacher, and I admire that.

Your Persian translations are so nice n' correct. For "to Lay", your translation is correct, we use also "gharâr dâdan". I have only one suggestion for the word "xaylî", it's literally correct but the best alternative for it would be "Besyâr".

    I have a question too:
In the last stanza, They refer to whom?

Well, she is talking to the Love as a person,

says I'm away from you and the people around me
are making fun of me, and they laugh at me.
    (
    *Alay ediyorlar gülüyorlar
They poke fun (at you), they laugh (at you)
The subject is not obvious here and you have
translated as if they laugh at Love, well
it can be however it's more likely that they
    laugh at her
    ).

and she asks Love to find someone for her, someone
    that will Love her
and the people around her who make fun of her
also know that Love can do it.

    ...

    Cool

    OMG,
    Such lovely and sophisticated lyrics.
You're right, so they make fun of her and love can save her from this situation.

I could cry with this song, thank you so much my dear Selim.

    God Bless You
