    Default Lyrics You're Fond Of

So perhaps Milena was joking when she mentioned that she and I should start a thread of favourite lyrics, but I liked the idea. Since she and I can talk about it at length, perhaps someone else can too.
All I request is that you provide some sort of loose translation and explanatory note (e.g. theme, personal significance, whatever...)

Song: Hadi Beni Güldür> Come On, Make Me Laugh
    Artist: Ogün Sanlısoy
    Theme: Self-acceptance
    Best Time to Listen:
When you're beating yourself up for not being:
    a) as kind as Paul Orhan
    b) as fascinating as Milena(*EDIT- benim hala en sevdiğim moderator )
    c) as gracious as Ercmnt
    d) as quick-witted as SilverMoon
    e) as confident and grammatically correct as VivaPalestina
    f) as bright as Sohuda (or as bright as her future will be, with all her schoolwork)
    g) as good at making multiple-choice lists as Partizanka
    h) as well-rounded as VeryClever
    i) as young as Berrytr
    j) as powerful or well-read as Layla
    k) as pretty as Tarkan
    l) as eloquent as Ogün
    m) as insanely intelligent and good with smiley faces as PlainChaos
    n) as good at designing entire cities and translating impossibly complicated lyrics as Sade

Aynaya sordular güzel miyim diye> They asked the mirror "Am I beautiful"
Dedi bırak yüzünü bak şu gözlere> It said "leave your face, look at those eyes,
Eğer parıltı varsa,yüreğin çarpıyorsa> If they shine, if your heart beats
Bu dünyada senden güzel mi var> Is there anyone more beautiful than you in this world?

    Very sweet man, Ogün.
*Not sure if I said this right. But you get the point I think.

    Song:Ayı> Bear
    Artist: Panik
    Theme: Silver Moon
    Best Time To Listen:
When it's been at least a month since you heard a song about a bear, or after you've exhausted Kurban's discography and want to hear more Deniz Yılmaz

Ayıdan dost olur da senden asla> It's more possible to be friends with a bear than with you*

*Since SilverMoon is a friendly guy, he's the ayı, not the sen. But in no other circumstances should SilverMoon be referred to as /ayı./

Let me start with congratulating Partizanka and Milena on their mutual idea to open a new thread devoted to lyrics. After all, without them a song would only be a tune to hum. And when it happens that lyrics are meaningful, profound and possess the ability to touch your heart then a song reaches the state-of-the-art level. Since I am a) on Partizanka's post (I bow down before your kindness!) then please accept the lyrics below:

    Song: INTO THE SUN
Artist: MIZAN (lyrics by Can Isik)
Theme: human's love of God and its effect on one's life
Best time to listen: in times of self-doubt, personal crisis or if you can't pray but would like to

when you blind me, I’m devotion
    when you dream, I’m real
    in your silence
    with your brightness
    I’m aflame
    I can heal myself
    feed on your rose
    I can face the strain
    learn on my own
whenever you shine in the crowds
    I feel loved

for all the grace you’ve given to me
I bow down before your love
I’m going adrift within your room
    into the sun
    into the sun

    I can walk with you
    move in your wake
    a disciple of truth
    off on my way
whenever it seems like the great escape
    I run to you
    I run to you

for all the grace you’ve given to me
I bow down before your love
I’m going adrift within your room
    into the sun
for every mistake to do good
I bow down before your love
I’m going adrift within your space
    into the sun
    into the sun

rise into the sun / dive into the sun

for every mistake to do good
I bow down before your love
I’m going adrift within your space
    into the sun
    into the sun

And one more, if I may.

    Song: FOOLISH THING
    Artist: JULIA FORDHAM
    Theme: OBVIOUS - LOVE!
Best time to listen: after break-up with the one, whom you thought would be the ONE and ONLY :-)

    I totally adored you
I would have stuck by you,
    Through thick and thin
I would have let you touch
    My pure and discerning skin

I almost fell in love with
    A man you almost are
    I almost stopped myself
    From falling in too far

    Can I just say
You have done a foolish thing
    You walked away
    From all the good
    My solid love could bring
And now I hear you’re hanging round
    With some mousey girl
    From some small town
    Foolish thing, foolish thing

Your friends warned me about you
They said you were more trouble
    Than you’re worth
They said you couldn’t give me
    All that I deserve

    Can I just say
You have done a foolish thing
    You walked away
    From all the good
    My solid love could bring
And now I hear you’re hanging round
    With some mousey girl
    From some small town
    Foolish thing, foolish thing

    For a clever guy
You have done a foolish thing…
    (repeat chorus)

You have done a foolish thing
I could have loved you more than anything
    Foolish thing…

Actually I wasn't joking, I was just thinking about this. (But for some reason Anemi's lyrics came to your mind first. )

but isn't this supposed to be about Turkish songs, or is it ok if we other than Turkish song?
The hours of pain have yielded good,
    Which prosperous days refused;
As herbs, though scentless when entire,
    Spread fragrance when they’re bruised.

Oooops, looks like I got carried away (again ) by this great idea to share our favourite lyrics and completely forgot about the Turkish origins of the songs
    Forgive me, please!

    Thank you so much.

The most passionate lyrics I’ve ever known in Turkish:

Sezen Aksu – Her Şeyi Yak

Burn me, burn yourself, burn everything
A spark is enough, look i am ready
If you wish; kiss, stroke if you wish just kill
Must die for love, then love is love
Must die for love, then love is love

I inhaled you in a breath
My heart is imprisoned, my chest is in the cage
We will both burn in fire
A spark is enough, look i am ready
Must die for love, then love is love

    My god, my god
    I am walking to flames
    My god, with pain
    I am growing with love

Exhaust me with yearning, exhaust me with your love
    Lovelessness is harder then separation
Hurt me as much as you wish
Neither your entity is enough nor your absence
Neither your entity is enough nor your absence

    My god, my god
I am walking to the flames
    My god, with pain
    I am growing with love

    (Translation by r a i [N] b [O] w)

Emre Aydın – Bu Kez Anladım

Kaybettim bugün kendimi, hükümsüzdür // I lost myself today, it’s invalid

Emre Aydın – Belki Bir Gün Özlersin

Bin bıçak var sırtımda, // There are a thousand knives on my back
Biniyle de adaşsın // and you're the namesake of them all (literally, of its thousand)
Her biri hayran sana // Each one admires you

Emre Aydın – Unut Gittiğin Bir Yerde

Tam karşıya geçerken bıraktığın o el benim // The hand that you unhanded as you were crossing (the street) is mine

Çok büyüdüm sayende // I grew up so much, thanks to you

Emre Aydın – Kimse Olmadı Senin Gibi

Ama amalar yasak bize // But the "but"s are forbidden for us
Keşkeler kilitli // And the "if only"s are locked

    Anemi – Merhamet

Ait olmak eskidenmiş...// Belonging (to someone) is a thing of the old

    Hayko Cepkin – Sıkı Tutun

Yıkamaz kimse inan kalbimdir benim kalem // No one can destroy, believe (me), my fortress is my heart

    Kurban – Ben Değilim

Söyleyecek sözün yoksa dinle // Listen, if you have nothing to say
Dönüşü olamayan yola girme // Don’t take the way without return

    Yasemin Mori – Konuşmak

Sen beni yenemedin // You couldn’t beat me
Çünkü ben senle oynamadım! // Because I didn’t play with you!

Cem Karaca – Sen De Başını Alıp Gitme

Hayatta hiçbir şeyim az olmadı senin kadar // I had nothing as less as you in life

    To be continued...

I think we should generally keep them Turkish since it's under the Turkish sections, but if once in a while, there's something non-Turkish you want to share, to me that's totally fine. (I've already thought of particular Bosnian, English, and Italian songs that I'd like to post at some point. )
So, Paul, no worries.(Especially cos I liked your lyrics too, e.g. "for every mistake to do good
I bow down before your love"- beautiful.) And I'm glad my odd sense of humour amuses you.

As for the two songs I listed Sohuda, I would not recommend those two particular songs from those artists.
Ogün Sanlısoy's song is okay (I think it's popular) and has really sweet lyrics, but it's not one of his best songs, in my opinion.
And Panik's song...well I like Panik cos it's the singer from Kurban, but they are quite weird and this song is also not the first I would recommend from them. Try Zevk-i Hela Haha, KIDDING, MILENA! (its lyrics are so awful Sohuda that it's almost wonderful in its horrid-ness.)

    Milena, pace yourself!
No surprise...most of the lines you posted from Emre are ones that stick out in my mind (particularly "the hand you let go of crossing the street is mine" from Unut Gittiğin Bir Yerde- definitely my favourite line from that song).
Also, I didn't particularly love the song Konuşmak, but loved the line from Yasemin Mori. Very clever.
And Cem Karaca's line- Ouch! That hurts. I like it!
"Neither your entity is enough nor your absence"...Wow. Nice.

I realize this is inappropriate after I told Milena to pace herself and said we should keep the lyrics mainly Turkish, but there's one artist I'd really like to share with you. He writes better pop songs than anyone I've ever heard. His name is Tiziano Ferro and he's Italian. I'm sure some of you have heard him, but forget his popular songs...these ones are more genius. I'm sorry to post such long lyrics, but I would sincerely ask you to read them since I took a bloody long time doing this (and perhaps even listen to the songs, as they're really good, although not as catchy as his faster songs.) (And if there are any Italian speakers who wish to improve my translation- please do, as unfortunately to me, I can never quite capture how meaningful and beautiful his lyrics are when I put them in English.) I can only compare him to Emre; I can imagine Emre writing things like this...and that is the highest compliment to them both.

Tiziano Ferro- Assurdo Pensare- Absurd to Think
    Theme: Failing (in any sense)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcGEs4f9n2w

È assurdo pensare che a volte le cose >>It's absurd to think that at times the things
non vadano bene e vadano rese >>Don't go well and have to end
È assurdo pensare che giunti a un traguardo >> It's absurd to think that you approach/get to the finish line
neanche ci arrivi >> But don't even arrive at it (this line is so good!)
È assurdo pensare ma è lecito farlo >> It's absurd to think, but it's allowed (i.e. it happens that way)

Alla Mia Età- At My Age
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxRvmHW81uw (this is official video, but on my computer at least, it's very quiet, so here's unofficial too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSnOr...eature=related )

Sono un grande falso mentre fingo l'allegria, >> I'm a huge fake while I feign joy
sei il gran diffidente mentre fingi simpatia, >> You're the coldest person while you feign sympathy
...ed io son morto e nessuno se n'è accorto. >> And I'm dead and no one noticed.
Lo sanno tutti che in caso di pericolo si salva solo chi sa volare bene, >> Everyone knows that in case of peril the only ones who save themselves are those who know how to fly well
quindi se escludi gli aviatori, i falchi, nuvole, gli aerei, aquile e angeli, rimani te >> so if you exclude the pilots, hawks, clouds, planes, eagles, and angels, there's just you left (who survives)...

E ringrazio sempre chi sa piangere di notte alla mia età >> And I'm always grateful to those who still know how to cry at night, at my age
e vita mia che mi hai dato tanto, >> and my life, you, which gave me so much
amore, gioia, dolore, tutto, >> love, joy, pain, everything
ma grazie a chi sa sempre perdonare sulla porta alla mia età. >> well thank you to those who always forgive at the door of my age....

E che la vita ti riservi ciò che serve spero >> And I hope that life has for you everything that you need
E piangerai per cose brutte e cose belle spero >> And I hope you'll cry for things both ugly and beautiful...
L’allegria mancata poi diventi amore >> That the joy you missed (didn't feel) becomes love
è perché Dio mi ha suggerito che ti ho perdonato >> It's because God whispered to me that I forgave you
E ciò che dice Lui l'ascoltato >> And it's because I listened to what He said
Di notte alla mia età >> At night, at my age

    And just one more...

Il Regalo Più Grande- The Greatest Gift
    Theme: Love (in any form)
(cos even "Sert Parti" has a heart and listens to pop style ballads sometimes )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWnPjNfXjWA (such a sweet video, but also maybe quiet, so just in case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjeKf...eature=related
Voglio farti un regalo >> I want to give you a gift
Qualcosa di dolce >> Something sweet
Qualcosa di raro >> Something rare
Non un comune regalo >> Not a common kind of gift
Di quelli che hai perso >> (not like) the ones you've lost
Mai aperto >> Or never opened
O lasciato in treno >> Or forgot/left on a train
O mai accettato >> Or never accepted
Di quelli che apri e poi piangi >> (Rather) One of those that you open and then cry
Che sei contenta e non fingi >> One that makes you happy and you're not faking (your happiness)

...E stavo attento a non amare prima di incontrarti >> And was I taking care to not fall in love before meeting you
E confondevo la mia vita con quella degli altri >> And I was confusing my life with the life of other people
Non voglio farmi più del male adesso, amore >> (But) I don't want to hurt myself anymore, Love

I could post so many more from him, but I won't. (hehe, for now). And SilverMoon: I must insist you listen to these songs and comment on them cos a) I've never recommended anything specifically to you and b) it's likely the only thing I would recommend that you might actually like.

And Viva- you too. To prove that I do have songs I like that are EMPHATICALLY NOT RAP!

Please do, I enjoyed Tiziano's lyrics a lot.
As to our dearest SilverMoon, I must admit that recommending songs to him seems a Sisyphean labour Whenever I think he definitely should like a song I am sending him, the result is quite the opposite .

And one thing more - your linguistic talents are amazing! Hats off! How many more languages do you know, I'm dying to know?

Thank you. If I want to sound really impressive then I can say I know 8 (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin, English, Italian, Japanese (to an extent), German) but that only tricks people who can't point to Bosnia on a map. But to be honest, I haven't used German in so long that I'm not sure if I should say I know it anymore. I hope to someday replace it with Turkish.

I'm glad you appreciate Tiziano. He's very special to me. And I'll take what you said about SilverMoon as a warning. So that if he doesn't like Tiziano, I will be expecting it.

The necessary ingredients, as I see it, are:
    1. a true and deeply felt Aşk that's bigger than life;
    2. two halves of an orange meeting at the right time and place;
    3. emerald Akdeniz and sapphire southern skies - as the obligatory setting and entourage; olive groves highly recommended; blooming roses (rosa bulgarica or damascena) and jasmine - a must!;
    4. warm bahar winds blowing from the afore mentioned sea;
    5. kırmızı şarap (optional);
and last but not the least
    6. a poet with an imagination to later report on the subject.

As you will see from the above list, such love is only possible in the Southern part of Europe. We here in the North, granted by the Almighty with cold seas, bitter freezing winds, rain and sleet and snow, short summers, vodka and potatoes have no chance!
