    Damn that clever Emre.
Next to him, this has to be my favourite Turkish lyricist: Doğan Duru from Redd

    Artist: Redd
    Best Time to Listen:
When you're kinda tired of the world

Song: Oyun// Game (Thanks Milena for translating)

Uçabilseydim bir kuş gibi başka bir yere konardım // If I could fly, I would perch in another place like a bird
Umduğum dünya yaşadığımdan daha güzel // The world I hope for is more beautiful than the one I live in

Sağım solum önüm arkam sobe // Ready or not, here I come

Song: Masal // Tale (Thanks Berrytr for the translation)

Ben mi seçtimki bu oyunu, kurallarını seveyim? // Is it me who chose this game and so i m supposed to love its rules?...

Ben mi diktimki bu kostümü neden giyeyim? // Is it me who sewed this costume , why i am supposed to wear it ?
Hayat başladığı gibi biter. // The life ends , as it starts
Belki de rolümü boşvermeliyim. // Maybe i should not care what my role is.

As I told you before, "sometimes" being Turkish helps to understand his lyrics better. For example "Kaybettim bugün kendimi hükümsüzdür" may not sound meaningful in English, but it is perfect (to me) in Turkish. (You need to know why he says "hükümsüzdür".)

    Redd's lyrics are really good.

I like that line from them:

    Keyifli Bir Gün

Ruhumu çeker medcezir, geri gelmezse işime gelir // Tide pulls my soul, if it doesn't come back it suits me fine

Keyifli Bir Gün is on a long list of Redd songs I want to request a translation of. Thanks for the "sneak preview" ....Great line indeed! Who needs a soul anyway?

After you explained to me about "hükümsüzdür" (losing an I.D. card and being "invalid" right?) I really appreciated that line even more.
And it's not my fault I wasn't born in Turkey. If only my mother had asked me.

Doesn't anyone have such an interest in good lyrics as Milena and I??? Come on people!

Pleasure. Maybe I'll give them another chance. (coz of the movie soundtrack.)

Yes. That word is usually used for loss announcements.

I keep on playing Bir Damla Gözlerimde by Sertab Erener. Great song. I love that line:

Konuşmadığımız her ne varsa seninle // All the things we left unsaid
Sakladım gözlerimde // I kept them in my eyes

I just read a translation of that song...I like the lyrics too.

Maybe my favourite lyrics of all time :
    Çilekeş – Sınır // Border

Tanrıysan, gel yardım et // If you are God, come, help (me)...
Yanlışsam sen aydınlat // If I'm wrong, show me the light

First of all, I wish you success in your new thread!
I think I liked Tiziano's tracks but need time to let them grow on me (Should I visit "Music that has to grow on you" thread? But liked second one more. The only song I knew of him was "Perdono", which I was long ago.
Waiting for mp3 links of these songs by a volunteer...

Success on the new thread? I don't know why I find that so funny to say.
I actually don't like Perdono that much...his albums got better with time; I think that was from his first.

I'm in quite a Çilekeş quoting mood it seems.

Song: Bir Ses Yap // Make a Sound/Speak Up

KENDİNLE YÜZLEŞMEKTEN KORKMA // Don't be afraid to face yourself
GEÇ KALMADAN BİR SES YAP! // Speak up before it's too late!

    Her Deniz // Every Sea

DALARSAN SEN HER DENİZ BİR YOL BULUR ÖZGÜRLÜĞE // If you'll dive, every sea finds a path to freedom*

Kendimden Geriye // Back From Myself/ Rest of Myself(?)

Ölürken bile yanımda ol sevgilim // Be by my side, even when I'm dying, My Love...

Sonsuzluk önümdeydi hep, ama gidemedim senden uzağa // Eternity was always in front of me, but I couldn't go far from you

And you don't even want me to start with their new album.

*Or if you speak Partisian "Every Deniz finds a road to Özgür-ness"...See this song is actually about Kurban.

Hep aynı şeyler işte // Well, everything's the same

Hem sen tanırsın beni // You know me well
Ne yapsam ne söylesem // No matter what I do or say

ahh Good choice, but my fav. lines from that song are:
Nasılsın nasıl gitti? – How are you, how did you get there?
Alıştın mı sen de? – Did you also get used?
Rahat mısın artık İstanbul’a? – are you feeling ok in Istanbul?

As herbs, though scentless when entire,
    Spread fragrance when they’re bruised.

You know, I'm looking at that now and I'm confused. (Should surprise no one )

Alıştın mı sen de- I'm thinking about the word "alıştın"- doesn't that mean like "you got used to something" not like "you were used"? In any case, I like how nicely he sings your line Sohuda. Vocally that's one of his best songs in my opinion.

Sezen Aksu - Yol Arkadaşım, that song just gets to me!

Ben sana küsüm aslında, haberin yok
i'm actually not talking with you, you don't know it

    Koyup gittiğin yerde kötülük çok
there is much evil where you left behind

Kime kızayım, nazım senden başka kime geçer
who (else) should i be angry with, who, other than you, puts up with me?

Benim sensiz kolum, bacağım, ocağım yok
i have no arms, no legs, no fireplace without you
The hours of pain have yielded good,
    Which prosperous days refused;
As herbs, though scentless when entire,
    Spread fragrance when they’re bruised.

I didn't get why you're confused. and yes that's what the word means. Please do elaborate, and yes Son Defa is a great song

I'm embarrassed a bit, but just in English I think "you got used" is quite different from "you got used to____(something)".

You got used- someone treated you badly
You got used to something- you became accustomed to it
So I think the word /to/ is very important here.

    Am I making any sense?

    Viva, Englishlady, help!

I can't say anything there, you're the English teacher! and yes I suppose you're correct, I didn't translate the song, I just copied the translation
so it'd better be "did you too get used to (it)" or sth like that. Spot on as viva'd say lol, good observation, and you shouldn't be ashamed of yourself at all!

Not Turkish but it's so fitting at the moment...

I'm working on my computer to design a cover, messing around on this forum more than actually working, listening to Franz Ferdinand's masterpiece first album and I hear this:

"It's always better on holiday, so much better on holiday. That's why we only work when we need the money."
    -Jacqueline

    Perfect timing!

No need, I only spoke the truth.
And finally, I wish to add a special lyric here that was mysteriously deleted from the forum.

    Artist- Anemi
Song- T.A.K. // That which must not be named
(technically these are not in the song, but I like these words very much

    Köpekler için üzülmeye değmez
    Köpekler burunlarının dibinde bile olsa
    Renk körü oldukları için
    Gökkuşağının o güzel renklerini göremezler
Bizde zamanında 1 köpeğe gökkuşağının renklerini gördüğümüzü anlatmaya çalıştık ama
    Hiç bi köpeğe inandıramadık

Courtesy of SilverMoon (trademarked and copyrighted, used without express written permission, all rights reserved, etc...): Dogs are not worth feeling sad for
Even if it was under their very nose, They wouldn’t see those beautiful colours of the rainbow because they are colour blind
We once tried to tell a dog that we could see the colours of the rainbow
But we could make no dog believe it.

I love it. Well said, Anemi and Ay.
