I quite like them, although I'm not sure I'm remembering the translations exactly, the point should be the same.

    Hello there!

I love this thread, ya partizanka! Sorry again for discovering it only these days! Maybe my stalking abilities aren't as good as Viva told you!

For my first post, i would like to start with some lyrics of Kurban's song! I absolutely love this song and i can totally relate to some of the lyrics!

Ya Plain, your translation is perfect! <3

So, here are my favorite lines:

Bu yüzün arkasında saklıdır başka bir ben
Behind this face, another me is hidden

    ... herşeyden bıkmış bir ben
... who is sick of everything

Derdini söylemeyen kendini boğmuş bir ben
A me who cannot make himself understood, a me who has suffocated himself

Benden uzakta doğmuş, beni besleyen bir ben
A me who was born far away from me, a me who fosters me

Yokluğundan usanmış, beni özleyen bir ben
A me who has had enough of my absence, a me who misses me

    Artık gülmüyorsam bir nedeni vardır
If I do not smile anymore, there is a reason

    Artık sevmiyorsam bir nedeni vardır
If I do not love anymore, there is a reason

Artık duymuyorsam ne beklersin ki benden?
If I cannot feel anymore, what are you expecting from me?

Well, i guess this pretty much says enough for the beginning! Wait for more!

Anyways, I realised you highlighted different parts of the songs, so I'll do the rest

    Bu yüzün arkasında saklıdır başka bir ben;
    Behind this face, another me is hidden;
Doğruyu söylemeyen, herşeyden bıkmış bir ben.
A me who cannot tell the truth, who is sick of everything.
    Artık gülmüyorsam bir nedeni vardır.
If I do not smile anymore, there is a reason.

If I cannot feel anymore, what are you expecting from me?

    Çek git, kurtul vaktin varken.
Leave, save yourself while you still can.
    Çek git, kurtul benden.
    Leave, save yourself from me.

Sözlerle yıpratılmış, ağlarken gülen bir ben.
A me who has been crippled by words, who smiles when crying.
Yokluğundan usanmış, beni özleyen bir ben.
A me who has had enough of my absence, a me who misses me.
Herkesi dostu bilen, herkesten kopuk bir ben.
A me who sees everybody as his friends, a me who is disconnected from everyone.

Actually I take it back. I cant choose. All the lines are perfect.

Thanks , I'm glad you came (finally!!) . And starting your posts here with Kurban lyrics is always a way to make up for late discoveries.

I've really liked this song since I heard Kargo's cover of it. I haven't heard anyone who sings this as well as Koray Candemir. Although they try to. The lyrics are so simple but, somehow, so good.

Öyle Sarhoş Olsam ki // I Wish I Could Be So Drunk That... (I'm not sure who originally wrote this song actually )

Öyle sarhoş olsam ki // I wish I could be so drunk that
Bir daha ayılmasam // I couldn't get sober again
Herşey bir rüya olsa // (I wish) everything were a dream
Unutarak uyansam // That I could wake up and forget

Seni gördüğüm günü // The day I met you
Sevdiğimi unutsam // That I could forget that I loved you
Bir başka dünya bulsam // That I could find another world
İçinde sen olmasan // That you would not be inside it

    I love these lines.

I am sorry to inform you, but BEN has officially become OUR song! =)) Who's stealing from who?

    Na7na wa7ed, 9a7!

The words are perfect, i swear! I haven't encountered since long time a song that suits my current 7al so great as this one!

I knew that it would have a great impact!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Emre Altuğ - Bu kadar

    Güneşi bilmez ayı bilmez
Aşk çölünde zayii bi kayıbım ben
    Haykırmaksa aşkı en ayıbı
    Kullar arasında en ayıbım ben
    Ne eser ne hasar kaldı

I'm (wasted and) lost in the desert of love
without knowing sun, without knowing moon.
If it is the most disgraceful thing to cry out love,
Then I'm the most disgraceful one among human beings.

    [translation - pinar85]

    Tarkan - Vay anam vay

    Sorma derdin nedir diye sorma
    Gel gör, halimi görde anla

Don't ask that what my problem is
Come and see my condition so understand

    [translation - Volcano1985]

    Tarkan - Adımı Kalbine Yaz

Ayda yılda bir olsa da muhakkak ara
    Azıcık zamanından ayır da
“Öldün mü kaldın mı?” diye sor ara sıra
    Adımı kalbine yaz beni unutma

Do call me even if it is once in a blue moon
    Spare a little time
And ask occasionally whether I’m still alive or dead
Write my name on your heart and don’t forget me

    [translation - SiLvEr_MooN]

    Tarkan - Sorma kalbim

    Hepimiz yalnızız bu yolda
    Hayat denilen oyunda

All of us are alone on this road
    In this game called life

    [translation - Beso]

Don't even get me started on whose song "Ben" really is.

Layla, I especially liked your line from Vay Anam Vay and this one as well: “Öldün mü kaldın mı?” diye sor ara sıra.

Does Tarkan generally write his own lyrics?

PlainChaos reminded me of maNga today. Their song Bitti Rüya was what started my interest in Turkish music. I still really like these lines from that song:

Olanlar yetmez gibi bir de mesaj geliyor // As if the things that happen aren't enough, a message comes
"Mutluluklar, hoşçakal" // "Be happy, take care"
Birer birer zırvalanıyor // One by one meaningless (messages come)*
İyice dağıtmak için biraz daha içiyorum // I drink a bit more to forget myself/get totally wasted*
Sonra oturmuş mal gibi zırıl zırıl ağlıyorum // Then staring like a lunatic, I start sobbing.

Seviyorum sormadan, öpüyorum kasmadan // I love without asking, I kiss without force
Dayan artık dayan, bitti rüya // Hold on now endure it, the dream is over.

**These two lines...I'm never sure which translation is best expression. I've seen a few.

Depends on the record but, generally speaking, the answer would be YES. On "Olurum Sana", "Karma" or "Metamorfoz" the vast majority of songs was composed and/or written by him. On the last one only the title song bears his own music and lyrics. On the second record, "A-acayipsin", only 3 or 4 were penned by him, the rest coming from renowned artists like Aksu, Colakoglu, Tilbe. On his debut album "Yine Sensiz" the majority was penned by him but only 3 were his compositions.

I'd like to recommend the following blog should you want to go deeper into him - it includes a very complete porttrait of the Artist and so much more!

    http://tarkandeluxe.blogspot.com/

and the link to the albums:

    http://tarkantr.blogspot.com/2005/06/albums.html

This blog has some of the best translations of Tarkan's songs I've ever read (done by a Turkish Cypriot who is a poet himself and has been living in Britain for most of his life - with due respects to all our friends at ATL, his fluency in both languages is unparalleled).

    Saluti!

I love this song so much! And the lyrics are great! It took me some two days of constant practising to be able to sing this part of the song with Tarky - it's so difficult to adjust a Slavic tongue and palate to the rules of Turkish pronounciation!

Listening to Redd. (partizanka, I really liked some songs.)

Redd - Mutlu Olmak İçin (In Order To Be Happy)

Mutlu olmak için sevmek için görme, işitme // In order to be happy, in order to love, don't see, don't hear
Mutlu olmak için sevmek için bilme, çok düşünme // In order to be happy, in order to love, don't know, don't think too much

Paul- thanks for the information on Tarkan...even if I don't always like his songs, I respect him more that he often writes his own.

Milena- I'm really glad to see that you are liking some songs of Redd. I love the lines you quoted. That's a really good song. Any particular songs you liked from them?

My favourites are Küçük Bir Çocukken, Masal, Astrotanrı, Aşktı Bu, Prensesin Uykusuyum, Bak Keyfine, Mutlu Olmak İçin. Good music, and even better lyrics.

Strongly agree. Like I said, Doğan Duru is second only to Emre as far as lyrics that really "speak" to me.
I love this from Prensesin Uykusuyum:

Bir masalın yokmuşuyum ben hiç ben olmuş muyum // I'm the "once" part of a fairy-tale, haven't I ever been myself

Very cool. And I liked that a lot:

I forgot to mention that his voice...incredible. Now I'm really in the mood to listen to them.

By the way, if you ever are very bored again and the only choices you have are Nihat-stalker lyrics, I'd love to read a translation of Bak Keyfine...I've never found one and there many lines I don't understand but you said the lyrics are good.

I think I already posted these, but my fondness has only increased. It also has my favourite turkish word And Plainy I congratulate you. Im addicted to Tarkan.

    Tarkan - Ikimizin Yerine
It goes without saying, this beautiful translation is thanks to Plain

    Sen üzülme gülüm incinme
So be not sad my rose, dont be hurt
Canimin içi, iki gözüm, sakin küsme
Core of my life, my two eyes, dont be cross
    Bana hediye birak bütün kederleri
Leave all the pain as a present for me
    Ben aglarim ikimizine yerine
I will cry for the both of us
