    Default O Rappa "Minha Alma"

Can anyone translate this beautiful song for me into English?
I've worked on it a bit but some parts don't make sense.
    O Rappa is Brazilian.
    Thanks!

    a minha alma est armada
    e apontada para a cara
    do sossego (sego)
    pois paz sem voz
    no paz medo (medo)

s vezes eu falo com a vida
    s vezes ela quem diz
qual a paz que eu no quero
    conservar
    para tentar ser feliz

    as grades do condomnio
    so para trazer proteo
    mas tambm trazem a dvida
se no voc que est nessa priso
me abrace e me d um beijo
    faca um filho comigo
    mas no me deixe sentar
na poltrona no dia de domingo
    procurando novas drogas
    de aluguel nesse vdeo
    coagido pela paz
    que eu no quero
    seguir admitindo

Some verses don't make sense not even in portuguese.Anywau here is my attempt :

A minha alma tá armada e apontada
My soul is armed and pointing
    Para cara do sossego!
at the face of the quietness
    (Sêgo! Sêgo! Sêgo! Sêgo!)
    ness ness ness
Pois paz sem voz, paz sem voz
Because peace without a voice( an unfair peace)
    Não é paz, é medo!
    It's not peace,it's fear !
    (Medo! Medo! Medo! Medo!)
    Fear , fear, fear, fear

As vezes eu falo com a vida,
Sometimes I talk with the life
As vezes é ela quem diz:
Sometimes it is the life who shows me
Qual a paz que eu não quero conservar,
The type of peace that I don't want to keep me
    Prá tentar ser feliz.
    trying to be happy

    As grades do condomínio
The iron grating around the condominium
    São prá trazer proteção
    serves to bring protection
    Mas também trazem a dúvida
But it also serves to bring a question
Se é você que tá nessa prisão
Is it not you who is in a prision ?

Me abrace e me dê um beijo,
    Hug me me, kiss me
    Faça um filho comigo!
    Let's make a son
Mas não me deixe sentar na poltrona
But don't let me sit in an armchair
    No dia de domingo, domingo!
    On Sunday,Sunday
    Procurando novas drogas de aluguel
looking for a bunch of crap for rental
    Neste vídeo coagido...
    In this constrained video

É pela paz que eu não quero seguir admitindo
It's for peace I don't want keep accepting as true
É pela paz que eu não quero seguir
    It's for peace I don't want keep
É pela paz que eu não quero seguir
    It's for peace I don't want keep
É pela paz que eu não quero seguir admitindo
It's for peace I don't want keep accepting as true
    seguir admitindo
    keep accepting as true

    That's fantastic! Moitu obrigado gbasfora.
My attempt wasn't so terrible - here's what I came up with.

My Soul (... the peace I do not want)

My soul is armed and pointed
    to face the calm!
Because peace without a voice, peace without a voice
    is not peace but fear!
    Sometimes I speak of life,
    sometimes she speaks to me:
“What is this peace that I’m not willing to hold on to,
    trying to be happy?”
    The condominium bars,
they are there to bring protection
but they also bring the doubt
that maybe it is you who is in prison.
    Hug me and kiss me,
    make a child with me!
But don’t leave me sitting on the couch
    on a Sunday!
Looking for new drugs for rent
    in this coerced video...
It is for the peace, that I am not going to keep making assumptions...

Yours makes more sense - the Procurando novas drogas de aluguel, nesse video coagido... part was tough for me. The "pela paz que eu nao quero seguir admitindo" is tricky too. I appreciate your perspective.

I know this thread is really old, but a friend asked me to try to translate this song so he could sing it in English. I was looking for something like it, but got no luck, so I did my best. It helped that I've once interpreted the lyrics in a literature class ages ago.

Here's what I came up with:

"my soul is armed, locked and loaded
aimed right between the eyes in ease's face (face, face, face...)
    'cause voiceless peace, voiceless peace
    is no peace--it's fear

    sometimes I speak to life
    sometimes it tells me
    what's the peace
that I don't want to preserve
so I can try to be happy

    the fences around the condoms
    are supposed to bring protection
but they also raise the question
that maybe it's you who's in prison

Gimme a hug and a kiss
    have a baby with me
but don't let me sit on the couch on a given sunday (on sunday)
    looking for new rental drugs
    in this constrained video
it's for the peace that I don't wanna keep on admitting"

Red parts are slightly adapted to they can be sung. Some of the choices are not the best translation possible, but the idea was being able to sing those lyrics.

    A few interpretation notes:

    * "sossego" -- it refers to being blind/indifferent to what's going on in the world around you, just so you can rest and don't think about any of it. His soul is more than ready to shoot this tranquility in the face.
    * "paz sem voz não é paz, é medo" -- you may think you're at peace due to your "sossego", but you're actually just living in fear
    * "me abrace (...) dia de domingo" -- it's like saying "let's do anything to celebrate life, let's get up and live, instead of sitting on the couch watching tv". (Also, the reference to tv is reason enough to use "couch" instead of "armchair" or similar)
    * "drogas de aluguel neste vídeo coagido" -- probably a reference to videotapes that were more often than today rented at video rental shops, or maybe just any kind of video media, full of ideology, trying to ease your pains while they still manipulate you. Note also that "vídeo" can also mean the tv, a pc monitor, a screen among other means of showing a video.

I don't mean to necro this post.
But here is a couple of things I think some people may be getting it wrong.

"Faça um filho comigo!" its very sexual specially because it comes after hugging and kissing, it would make more sense to say "let's make a baby" or "make a baby with me".

    "As grades do condomínio
    São prá trazer proteção
    Mas também trazem a dúvida
Se é você que tá nessa prisão"

The next part is a little more easy to understand after understanding this.
In Brasil the upper middle class build fenced condominiums to keep themselves "safe" from the violence and crime but they don't realize that they are imprisoning themselves. They prefer to sit and watch the violence and crime happening on the news while doing nothing, while keeping their mouth shut. They rather keep their voiceless peace than a just one.

    Now the meaty part.
"Procurando novas drogas de aluguel" Looking for a rented "fix", looking for something to be hooked on for a short period of time so that they can ignore that their peace is fake.
"Neste vídeo coagido..." In this coerced video, tailored video. Tailored for the narrative, coerced by the "man". "The News"

Basically is saying: Looking for a new fix, on the news. But remember that he is saying don't let me do this while sitting on a couch on a given sunday. Its for the peace I don't want to admit (accept as true) what I am being fed. I want change.

    Hope this helps.
