Giti Najafi - Baroon Barooneh

Maybe some will like it, some will dislike it. But I love it very very much. Unfortunately again I found no lyrics. I would suppose it bases upon an old folk song. I feel reminded of some Kurdish folk songs with their simple beauty. I hope, someone will translate this beautiful song

I really like your choice. This folkloric song is very unique for every Iranians. The original roots of this song come from the folkloric tunes in the north of Iran.

Now, thanks to you, I have enough courage to translate this masterpiece.

Oh thank you so! I'm very glad you like this song. Maybe I expected even mockery, because keyboard is played - let's say - some moderate. But the song itself has such a universal beauteousness

Important notes:
1- There are also some Kurdish tunes in this song. The combination of Kurdish tunes with the Tunes in the north of Iran (Gilaki) makes this song very unique.
2- The lyrics may sound quite ordinary, but the reality is that they're not. Throughout Iran's history, the poets always used to express their social and political views by using the metaphors of love. So, it's quite necessary for the listener to know about the hidden layers of the lyrics.

** It's a female name, but literally it means "The most lovely woman amongst women"
*** Iranian's main food through history, just like bread for Europeans.

^ This line refers to the fact that in the north of Iran, mostly women plant rice. Some of them are so young like Golnesâ.
^^ Bitter orange is the symbol of freshness for Iranians. They love the blossoms of the tree even more than its fruit.
^^^ It's a very tragic fact about the girls in villages. This problem was very common in the past. Parents would make their daughters marry someone they didn't love.
^^^^ This line can be interpreted in two ways: 1- If Golnesâ endured, the poet would marry her and they would have a good life.
2- The time of suppression and oppression would pass one day and liberty would come to our country. (This is the political layer of the song)

Vigen's version of this song is the first and I suppose the best version of it. He was the first one who brought "Guitar" to Persian music. We give him the title of "The King of Persian Jazz Music/Pop Music". He was christian (Armani) and he's considered as one of the most influential musicians in our music history.

He died in exile just like two great sisters of Iranian music Hayedeh and Mahasti .
