    Cool Translated: Googoosh - Darigh (Self-denial) (1970's)

    Artist: گوگوش Googoosh
    Song: دریغ Darigh (Self-denial)
Lyrics by: اردلان سرفراز Ardalân Sarfarâz
Music & Arrangement by: فرید زلاند Farid zoland
    Year: 1350's 1970's

The most well known performance of this masterpiece:

The link for the highest sound quality:

    دریغ
    Darigh
    Self-denial

Be dâdam beres ey ashk, delam kheyli gerefteh
Rescue me my teardrop, there is an insufferable pain deep inside my heart
Don't ask if it is for the absence of the beloved one, or for the loss of something precious

Mano darigheh yek khoob, be virooni keshoondeh
The self-denial of an angelic one tugged at my heartstrings
Azizameh tâ vaghti, nafas too sineh moondeh
My heart bleeds for him till my last breath

Too in tanhâyiyeh talkh, mano yek âlameh yâd
In this agonizing loneliness, I'm surrounded by a chain of memories
Neshasteh rooberooyam, kasi ke rafteh bar bâd
(in my memories) Someone is sitting beside me, someone who has been gone with the wind (in reality)

Kasi keh âsheghâneh, be eshghesh poshteh pâ zad
The one who amorously turned a blind eye to his love*
Barâyeh boodaneh man, be khod rangeh fanâ zad
For my survival, he put his own head on a spike

Cheh dardiyeh khodayâ, nakhâstan ammâ raftan
Oh my Lord, what a torment it is when someone is obliged to go, but he doesn't want to
Barâyeh oon keh sâyeh ast, hamisheh roo sareh man
Someone who has been so close to me, just like my shadow

Kasi keh vaghteh raftan, dobâreh âshegham kard
The one who has made me love him even more at the moment of his farewell
Mano âbâd kardo, khodesh viroon shod az dard
Who has resurrected me but has destructed his own self with sorrows

Be dâdam beres ey ashk, delam kheyli gerefteh
Rescue me my teardrop, there is an insufferable pain deep inside my heart
Don't ask if it is for the absence of the beloved one, or for the loss of something precious

Beh âtash tan zad o raft, tâ man injâ nasoozam
He has gone through fire for my being safe
Bâ raftaneh narafteh, too khoonameh hanoozam
Though he has gone, his love is still in my blood (I still feel for him)

Hanooz sâlâreh khooneh ast, panâheh maneh dastâsh
He is still the dearest one in my home, his hands are protecting me (from harm)
Saram roo shooneh hâsheh, roo goonameh nafas hâsh
My head is still on his shoulders, I can feel his breath on my face (cheeks)

Be dâdam beres ey ashk, delam kheyli gerefteh
Rescue me my teardrop, there is an insufferable pain deep inside my heart
Don't ask if it is for the absence of the beloved one, or for the loss of something precious

I want to dedicate this song to so many people:

My dearest Annoosh, who is so in love with Googoosh and always encourages me to translate the songs of the diva.

My dearest of the dearests little sisters in the world, Vivacim, who is so in love with Persian music.

My all time Pawlie, who is like a big brother to me and his kind words make my heart so warm.

The forum's Goddess, my dearest Milena, who is so in love with Rock n Rap, but cherishes old school hits too.

The source of positive energy, my dearest Partizanka, whose gorgeous Bosnian soul has haunted me for so long. A very precious friend indeed.

My German friend, Sofijski Mozart, who is always inspiring me to translate the most difficult concepts in Persian songs and poems.

I want to dedicate it also to my great friends in Persian section of the forum:

Pinky girl, sweet and kind, who is always ready for helping people, and is so generous in sharing her knowledge with the others.

Astorias, Benim Yıldızım, the shining star of the forum, whose endless source of positive energy shines through the forum.

My dearest new friend, Cametaa, who is the symbol of patience and care.

    My All Time Owlie,

Thank you so much, my soul Brother.

There's a bitter irony in the fact that the melody of this song is so serene while the lyrics are so heart rending...

Are there any joyful songs in Persian?

    Kheyli mamnoon, doostam!
Your friendship means a lot to me!

    Thank you too dear,

You can find so many of them nowadays. Arash, Shahyad, Afshin, Sasy Mankan, Amir Tatello,...

But theirs songs are mostly meaningless, just like ISMAIL YK's songs.

Persian songs, I mean meaningful ones, always have this bitter irony. To illustrate this fact, let's take a look at this dance song, which is still one of our best dance songs ever, 100% 6/8:

    http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/pe...ar-ey-del.html

Even nowadays, after nearly 20 years since its release, you would find this song at the wedding parties or regular parties.

I'm so in love with it.

OMG, my dearest, you speak Persian so fluently. I hope I could answer you in Bosnian. Unfortunately, I haven't found a proper website for learning Bosnian.

You're always so kind to me. Your gorgeous soul loves everyone, even her enemies. As moj Pawlie said, "YOU'RE A NOBLE PERSON".

    I also said Parti's a Noble Soul.
But of course that makes her a noble person automatically.

Persian music has had a very hard start to conquer my heart. It had to compete with my endless love to joyful Bulgarian music and with the beautiful and precious music of Asia minor, where so many Turks, Kurds and others are very active and skilled in producing traditional music and in developing it further for the future.

The one who gave Persian music an unmistakable face, who taught me to love the singularity of Persian tunes, is you! Thank you, verycherished1980 - thank you for your accurateness, thank you for being unique, thank you for being there and for being here.

And thank you for donating me Googoosh! Who else could give such presents, which are unpayable - and of course unbuyable

Thank you for connecting us with the history of Persia and with the people in Iran!

    My dearest Annoosh,
You're always so kind to me. I did nothing at all. I just translated it with my sensations and emotions towards this beautiful song. I've found equivalent idioms in English just by using my intuition, so I should thank my feelings.

Your love for Googoosh as a foreigner always amazes me. It reminds me that, we are the same. I mean human beings are the same. How sad some people stick to their fascist ideas and don't see this evident truth.

Just like our "Forum's Tanrıça" Milena, I'm totally speechless.

I'm the one who should thank you my dearest German friend for being here with us. You've inspired us to find more about our culture and traditions.

Your taste in music is so unique, is so fine. I can't find proper words for describing it.

Googoosh is our first female pop singer and we all cherish her. I've selected this song because it has some traditional roots in it, and I'm sure that you've found all of them already. Its Kurdish and Gilaki roots are so delicate.

From Iran (Persia) to Germany, I'm sending you best regards my friend.
