So you mean, that the wrong word at the wrong time should not have been told (and he told it)?

Well, the song's lyric sounds strange in Serbian as well. I was having a hard time too translating it.
"treba joj stati na put" means "it should be stopped" or "it should be prevented" (from saying).
He is aware how the wrong word could hurt someone, he doesn't want to say it, so he's going home, he's leaving the place. (= he didn't tell.) He also clenches his teeth, refraining from saying anything, but he can't stop his thoughts and feelings (memories)...
