this is an attempt that I made to help you
you have to understand that the in the beginning the sentences are reversed
i.e normally we should say:
was it necessary to go and do it and then regret it? (means: why did I go through such an experience which caused me too much pain)
But the song starts with the second part of the sentence and you won't find the first part before 14 lines
