There are some Irish guys that firstly created the akoe site
and afterwards the akoe blog in where they wrote their experiences/thoughts of every contest the last years.

In there you are able to read,
the one SERIOUS reason that Sweden should have been placed UNDER the TOP-5.

    What has happened?
The day before the final, there was the "Jury Final".
The man who watched this, wrote about Sweden:
    "17. SWEDEN (11/8 favourite)
With so many songs being underpar tonight, things could be moving in Sweden's direction. Loreen was very poor this afternoon, but was clearly holding back, but this goes badly off the rails when she appears to swallow some of the snow effect and never fully recovers. Very disappointing.
    "

So even if Loreen swallowed the snow effect and NEVER FULLY RECOVERED ,
how the 50% of juries' voting ended in so many 12 points votes of SO MANY countries during the night of the final.

The thing is that, even if we all liked "Euphoria" from the beggining, the result was FIXED, PERIOD!

It's pretty interesting for some of next year's contesters to try and swallow snow effect and see if they're nominated with the same points.

Ps. Here is the link of the blog -> http://akoe07.livejournal.com/ (but you have to scroll down and read the "Rolling blog of the 2012 Eurovision Jury Final")

I do believe as well it was fixed. Yes many countries would vote for their neighbor or the strongest minority they have but at the end of the day it is politics. I remember Graham Norton was saying that Pastora didn't want to win because frankly her country couldn't afford to host the competition. And he did say only Sweden and Russia can truly afford to host it. And he said it in the middle of the competition. So of course it was fixed. They wanted Sweden to host it... There should be snow swallowing contest before the final to see who is the best!

There are two reasons for making a rehearsal "official".
The main one is to record the process so as to be able to synchronize it with the "original" Final contest.
This happens in case something goes TRULLY the wrong way, while the product is "on air" the last day.
In this case they will just transmit the "recorded" contest. (Is there anyone that remembers TATU? )

The second one is for the juries' vote.
This 50% of the overall vote has been decided based on the last rehearsal.
In other words. One day BEFORE the final, half of the points are already been given to the songs.

So if a singer TOTTALY fails (as Loreen did) in the Last rehearsal she should have been given too few points,
that it would have been miraculous to achieve with only televoting to get so many 12 points after the calculations.

Remember! we're talking about A TON of 12 points and 10 points.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally. Yes the points are calculated in a simple formula (jury votes + televoters)/2.
    Example:
Let's say we're in Lithuania and we have
Malta 1st based on juries and 4rth in televoting. This means (12+7)/2 =9.5
And Austria 3rd based on juries and 1rst in televoting. This means (8+12)/2=10

So if these two countries acquired the highest of ponts, the running order for Lithuania's voting should be
    1st Austria aka 12 points
    2nd Malta aka 10 points
    Seems really difficult those calculations.
Aham... you're just giving an example, right? Malta -.-'

This time, it was actually TOO OBVIOUS!
Graham Norton is a spirited commentator. Added A LOT of humour, missing during Sir Terry Wogan's era.

Well, as for the expences of the contest... this is a TOTAL myth!
You should remember that most countries already have an arena capable of hosting the 10-20.000 concert.
Most of the countries may easily host the 5.000 "guests" of ESC in city's hotels.
Most of the countries are capable of creating a big Press Room with monitors and internet service.
Most of the countries can afford the hiring of sound systems and scandinavian team for tv-coverage.
Prabably the biggest expence should have been a renovation of the building!

Spain would have absolutely NO PROBLEM of hosting it. They already have trully organized cities to support their tourists.
The UK hosts the olympics, which means LOADS of money already spent. They would have no problem with ESC for sure!

So what's the reason that Spain didn't want to host it?
I can guess it's Spanish people and their reaction to spend money in the middle of crisis!

Yes it's POLITICS! And I don't mean the neighbor's voting. This time is every country's citizens reaction.
So truth is that, Swedish people wanted their country to host it.

And yes your idea about "snow swallowing contest before the final" was HILLARIUS!

No, calculating this is a rather easy task.
And yes Pat, I was trying to be polite while using the example of Lithuania voting Malta!

The thing is that the "snow swallowing" incident happened in a FORMAL - OFFICIAL way
    and not during a test-rehearsal.

Now I understood... It was a strange for me have a official last rehearsal for jury... But I saw that they send those performances to each country in order to have it all on saturday.
The fact that Sweden wanted it for years wasn't hidden. You're absolutely right if it was like that... but It's done. I like the song, really, just the way I like Iceland, Estonia and Serbia too, so any of those could win. Spain was the most brilliant performance of the evening. Nothing to declare, she was amazing, but I have this idea that Europe doesn't like Spain. They've already sent some really nice things and they always stayed low.

Anyway... let's talk about good things! The good ones

    I won't agree with that!
I belive it was Spain's 1st time of sending a REAL CONTENDER, for many years.
As you said Sweden tried to win this since 2006! Sending always good or at least acceptable songs.
Every country has to REPEAT and send good songs untill someone win,
even if there may be a year that the winning song is trully ahead of the others (the only one I remember was "Fairytale").
Don't forget that the Germans used to say "Europe don't like us" till Lena won.

Remember that I'm a balkanian and I liked this one before I saw the results.
The Irish people also wrote extremely good reports before the night of the Final.
So I really can't accept the "doesn't like" factor.

Well I love Spain and both in Ireland and Slovakia the opinion about Spain is very positive. So I don't think this is that. I loved Pastora, Have almost all her albums now But generally we don't know much about Spanish or Portugese music( I'm special )

But as Ame mentioned(and I agree 100%) this was the first time in years that Spain sent somebody SOOO good. In my opinion the only way how to achieve at least a bit of balance is not to release competing songs so early before competition. Loreen was already popular in many countries. So eveybody was talking about her weeks before competition... So pre eurovision moratorium might help( yep I know it might be difficult considering the power of social networking)

One more thing. Israel had cringleworthy performance this year what happened there? Jeez they tend to send really good singers but this year... And I didn't like Lena either. Again she got sooo many great reviews prior to the competition. And she failed my expectation completely!

Israel, if I may since I'm an Israeli, is suffering from the disease of insufficient self esteem......hence the attempt to imitate European sound ...
We don't need to...we have great music here....
I give you Knesiat Hasechel.....(The church of the Mind...freestyling translation)

    Say it's all Good

    A rainy Saturday (shabbat)
    and you're at the balcony
the sea can be seen from there
    kids play catch

    I make coffee
    you're still silent
your lack of sleep is shown
    so what do you say?

Say that it's hot , say that it's cold
Say that I there's nothing in me
Say it's good, say it's bad
Say "go" and "it's not so bad"

    Evening arrives early
    and you get dressed
    the sea has already disappeard
    kids walk in the rain

Say that it's hot , say that it's cold
Say that I there's nothing in me
Say it's good, say it's bad
Say "go" and "it's not so bad"
    I ask "where?"
    "Where do you go?
    outside there's a storm"
    So what do you say?

Lyrics were written by lead vocalist Ran Elmalich in collaboration with Shimon Adaf a brilliant writer who served as the head of literary assoication in Israel before he was thirty years old.

By reading this thread, post-Eurovision 2012, I begin to see some deeper issues to the things I asked about it on "Music by Mood" thread. Each person's opinion adds a bit more to my understanding of how Eurovision "works" (or doesn't work, in the opinion of some). Still . . . it seems an exciting time, that all Europe is glued to the program, anticipating good/excellent talent, and hoping for their favorite to win. That, in itself, is fun . . .

It's not a winning song but it's still nice and unfortunately underrated.

Yeap! I believe it will be Roma 2016.

But let's post some other .... don't we?
I think Pastora was better than the following

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
