    Hello, I know this song is about death but I don't understand the relationship between death and the chequered flag. Or the lyrics "Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand dead or alive". Is he saying that in death we are the winner? Thank you very much, Rick

    The chequered flag signifies the end of a race, so reaching the end of your life is like crossing the finishing line, and you take the chequered flag.
