Please help me. I heard this song when I was sixteen. That was ten years ago, and it has been haunting me ever since. I've spent the last two years searching for it actively. I have tried:
lyrics and google
music recognition
finding similar artists and listening to entire labels
pandora
grooveshark
etc.
Like the subject says:
90s - as late as 2003
Female singer
Dream Pop feel (If I remember right)
Sounded british?
Slow, lots of reverb, chorus/layering of voices in parts
Minor chorus, major verse. Haunting melody.
Lyrics are something like
You and John and _______
You and Johnny ________
You and John and Jeannie (Judy? Gena?)
Ride in my car
It would make me indescribably happy to hear this song again.

I started to look for the song. I have a few questions if you recall.
1. Are there words that you are very sure of that are said? It could be one word, two words or anything that can help.
2. Where did you hear the song? You can even list the country, radio station, tv, etc.
3. This last question may be tougher, but who knows maybe it can trigger something. You heard the song 10 years ago, you actively have been searching for it for the last 2 years. Did something trigger it? Not trying to sound crazy or anything, but you never know.
These could benefit the search. Hopefully this can be solved soon. I know the feeling of an unknown song really driving a person crazy. Be hopeful and optimistic. I've had some songs I was looking for ending up being solved in incredible ways. -
Yes, I have found almost all the songs I recorded snippets of from years ago, so I know I will find it.
I am very sure of the words 'drive/ride in my car' and 'johnny'.
I heard it on KVRX 91.7 FM in Austin, TX. I have already tried contacting the music director and searching through playlists from that time.
I can't think of what triggered it, really. I guess after I found a bunch of other songs that one became the holy grail.

No problem anytime. I'm sure others have tried also. Usually every post will warrant attention, even if there isn't a reply. Thanks for the information it does help. I had a few songs like these I was looking for and they were solved. There were times I hardly knew anything about the song. For one, there was a song I really didn't know a word, just a possible phrase containing 5 syllables. I had an idea of a melodic line, but that still wasn't a lot. Thankfully one of the repliers alrady had the thought in mind of a song, asked questions and made that guess.

2. Was it 3 consecutive lines/parts that mention you and whomever, then drive/ride in my car?

Yeah I listened through all their songs-definitely the sound is similar. I found an internet radio station called DecayFM that specializes is SG and Dreampop so I've been listening to that, using similar artist names in Grooveshark using their radio function. I think I am nearly out of options. I plan to re-create what I remember (I make music) and post the mp3 file here, hoping someone will recognize it.

Nice, and a very good idea. This one definitely is quite a challenge. If only someone had posted lyrics to the song you were looking for, then it would have been easier. Also right now I am going through this site. There is a feature where you can look for artists similar to the one you are viewing.
