Default Looking for a 90s song

    Hi everyone,

I'm new on this forum and I really hope someone will know the song I'm looking for!

I last heard this song on the radio around 1996 or 1997 (I was 6 or 7). It definitely sounds like a 90s song, and here are the few things I remember about it:
    - a female singer, with a voice kind of similar to Sinead O'Connor or the Cranberries, or Alanis Morrissette
    - very sad song, with sad instrumentals, and an instrumental sequence that lasted a good fifteen seconds.
    - if I had to classify it I would say pop/rock, it sounds a little bit like some of Madonna's more depressing songs, or like something the Cranberries would do. Mood-wise, it's dark and sad like Nights in White Satin for example.
    - I don't remember any of the lyrics. They were in English and back then I didn't speak English (I'm European). Which really doesn't help...

This is a true challenge, because let me tell you, I'm a genuine music freak and I've spent years looking for this song TO NO AVAIL. It's haunting me to the point of thinking about it every single day, hearing it in my head all the time, and going crazy about it. Help!

    Thank you so much!

Thanks a lot Dan, but it's not any of those (though I love Sleeping Satellite!). I would say that it sounds more depressing than those even. But thanks for your help!

    Try this song:

"She Cries Your Name" by Beth Orton

The tempo might be a bit faster than what you've described but my wild guess would be

"Twist in My Sobriety" by Tanita Tikaram. Originally 1988 but released again in 1996

Thank you both but it's neither of those!

But the voice is very similar to Beth Orton's and the instrumental parts too, but it's not as upbeat. And it's not Twist in my sobriety either, though it's definitely the same mood.

Thanks for your help (and for making me discover new cool songs)!
