Default Black To White (a tribute)

My personal tribute.to the late Johnny Cash and his all-consuming love for the woman (June Carter Cash) that rescued him from a lifetime of demons that almost destroyed him. My inspiration for writing this was the movie 'Walk The Line' with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

Long lines bcs he wrote a lot of story-songs in that style....

5 verses, one for each decade that he loved her.

    ~♥~

He walked into the rain and darkness staring straight ahead
while fighting every step the thought of one that wished him dead
But She had filled his heart and so he took a million steps
to bring her all the demons that he couldn't kill himself.

Facedown in the mud and barely knowing where he'd been
He woke up to the nightmare that would take him home again.
The man in black was dying but his angel would not let go.
She brought him through the blackness to a field as white as snow.

"Why are you here" he asked her, and she told him "You're my friend"
"I've been all wrong" he told her but she answered with loving hand...
"Is there more that you need?" And he whispered "No just stay."
Knowing she herself was home, her simple answer was "Ok."

But forty times he begged her, forty times he was hurt
Till finally she saw that he had given his soul to her
Though fiction was his song he was a prisoner all his life
But love became his warden when she said she'd be his wife

Now John and June are legends that we all sing praises of
But all they were together was a boy and girl in love
Angels guard the graves now where they rest in peace at last...
and "Love must be forever" is their final epitaph.

Run softly Blue River my darlin's asleep
Run softly Blue River run cool and deep
Run softly Blue River my darlin's asleep
Run softly Blue River run cool and deep

Oh I thrill to her kisses and she thrills to mine
Run softly while she sleeps and dreams for a time
Cause she dreams of tomorrow when she'll be my wife

And I pray that as peaceful as you is our life
And if your murmuring soothes me till I'm sleeping too
Run softly Blue River we'll both dream with you

Run softly Blue River my darlin's asleep
Run softly Blue River run cool and deep
Run softly Blue River my darlin's asleep
Run softly Blue River run cool and deep

    Teshka,

A nice tribute to a classic demonstration of love. Thank you. I'm glad you wrote about them. I haven't seen the movie, but I grew up with the story.
One for the history books as well as the poetry books.

    Frankie

P.S. I'll have to put this movie on our "Winter Watching" movies list! As well as the Ray Charles one, which we've not seen.

Frankie, I know you'll love both of those movies. Tess had a little problem at first with Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash, but I don't think it took long at all for him to "sell" her as much as he did me. I've seen "Walk the Line" at least half a dozen times, got the DVD, and that's also worth the price if you can get a director's cut or least one with some of the behind-the-scenes.

"Ray": Got that one too, and you'll love that one just as much if not even more. Jamie Foxx will blow you away.

Boo: You are just freakin' amazing

..... Yeah, there's at least one for sure that we did pretty much 50/50. But that one will never be put forth in a public setting

We've done a couple together that you know about(?). But the last time we tried it, we decided (very mutually) that most of the time we seem to do a little better by ourselves. But maybe one day we'll do something... shareable

Hi friends, Teshka and MoonRide*r, Iīm learning a lot thanks to you (and all our friends in ATL), I read this poem some weeks ago, and I still havenīt comment about it properly because I just found the movie, hope I can see it this weekend, but Teshka, your poem is beautiful and told me a complete love story, and real love last forever.
Hope I can find Ray Charlesī movie too, Iīm sure if you liked must be a great film.
Thank you, you write better every day, I mean the original ideas and literaly composition.

mexico thank you so so much, and yea please watch both of those movies bcs there is actually a lot of similarity between those two. You'll see exactly what i mean and i know that you'll love both of them. but grab a box of tissues first bcs you'll need them....but the reason why i "enjoyed" both of their stories so much is bcs they both show that in real life, love can certainly conquer all things and all tragedies, if not to erase the past but to help us survive it and stay true to the person that God made us to be.
